Nando De Colo extends contract at ASVEL
LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne guard Nando De Colo has agreed to a new contract extension at the club. It has not been declared how long the extension is for.
De Colo (1.96 meters, 37 years old) is a modern-day Turkish Airlines EuroLeague legend and last season overtook Vassilis Spanoulis to become the second-highest scorer in EuroLeague history with 4,481 points and counting.
In an injury-affected season, the veteran French guard averaged 12.2 points, 1.8 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.1 steals in 21 EuroLeague games for ASVEL.
"I'm delighted to see Nando continue his adventure with our club," ASVEL president Tony Parker said in a statement to the club's official media. "We've deliberately built a younger team for the coming seasons, and we'll need his experience at the very highest level to guide everyone. Nando and I have achieved a lot together, and we're still determined to bring back trophies to add to LDLC ASVEL's list of achievements."
Next season will be De Colo's third wearing an ASVEL jersey. So far, he has played 50 times for the club in the EuroLeague.
A two-time EuroLeague champion with CSKA Moscow in 2016 and 2019, De Colo's impact on the competition cannot be denied. He has appeared in 295 EuroLeague games, scored the second-most points in the league (4,481), dished the 11th-most assists (1,061), made the fifth-most steals (336) and has the highest accumulated PIR of all time (5,054). He is the only player in EuroLeague history to have a combined PIR of over 5,000.
De Colo started his career with Cholet in his native France and played there between 2006 and 2009 before heading to Valencia Basket. In his first season at Valencia, he lifted the BKT EuroCup title, which gave him the chance to play in the EuroLeague for the first time. He stayed with the club as they went back down to the EuroCup in 2011-12, then left to join the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA, where he played for a couple of years.
Upon his return to Europe in 2014, De Colo signed for CSKA. He remained there until 2019. Next up was a move to Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul, where he played between 2019 and 2022, before deciding to return to France with ASVEL.
The 2015-16 season was a particularly special one for De Colo, who was named the EuroLeague MVP, won the Alphonso Ford EuroLeague Top Scorer Trophy and then led CSKA to the title, earning Final Four MVP honors in the process.
He has also been selected to the All-EuroLeague First Team three times (2016-18) and the All-EuroLeague Second Team on three occasions (2014-15, 2018-19, 2020-21). In 2020, De Colo was one of 10 players included in the EuroLeague 2010–20 All-Decade Team.
In addition to all of his EuroLeague accolades, De Colo lifted the BKT EuroCup with Valencia Basket and was named in the All-EuroCup First Team in the 2009-10 season.
