Hapoel IBI Tel Aviv completed a perfect double round to open its debut EuroLeague campaign, rallying from a 13-point deficit to defeat Anadolu Efes Istanbul 81-87 on the road. A key 11–0 run in the fourth quarter turned the tide as Hapoel improved to 2–0. 

Antonio Blakeney led the team with 17 points, going 10 of 12 from the free-throw line. Elijah Bryant added 15 points, and Vasilije Micic contributed 9 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 assists – both putting in strong performances against their former club. Efes dropped to 1–1 despite a big night from Jordan Loyd, who scored 25 points. Ercan Osmani added 16 points and 7 rebounds, while Shane Larkin chipped in 13 points.

Hapoel started strong, with Ish Wainright knocking down a three-pointer to help build a 6–11 lead. But Osmani quickly shifted momentum, scoring his first basket to cut it to 10–11, then adding a triple and two more buckets to reach 10 points and tie the game at 18–18. Efes edged ahead 22–21 after the first quarter.

The hosts extended their lead in the second, with Isaia Cordinier and Loyd hitting back-to-back three-pointers as part of a 10–2 run to make it 34–25. Larkin added a three-point play, stretching the advantage to 41–29. Hapoel tightened up defensively, getting a few stops and narrowing the gap to 44–35, but still trailed 46–35 at halftime.

Kai Jones opened the second half with a basket to give Efes a 48–35 lead, but then the hosts went cold. Hapoel responded with a 12–0 run over three minutes, sparked by a Wainright triple and a three-point play by Dan Oturu, pulling within 48–47. Loyd briefly halted the surge, but Micic took over, hitting a three, adding two free throws, and assisting on another score for a 50–57 Hapoel lead. Loyd answered with 11 straight points to close the quarter, cutting the deficit to 59–61 after 30 minutes.

Blakeney took command in the fourth, opening the period with a three-pointer to make it 63–67. He followed with a driving score and four free throws – after being fouled on a three-point attempt and a technical on Loyd – to push the lead to 67–75. Moments later, Blakeney added three more from the line after Efes head coach Igor Kokoskov and two assistants were ejected, extending the gap to 67–78. Oturu’s dunk pushed the lead to 67–80, capping an 11–0 run. Efes responded with the next four points but never got closer than six the rest of the way, as Hapoel closed out a statement win on the road.

AS Monaco bounced back from a disappointing season opener in emphatic fashion, cruising past EuroLeague newcomer Dubai Basketball 103–81 to secure its first win of the season. Both teams now sit at 1–1 after Week 1.

The game turned decisively in the third quarter, when Monaco unleashed a 17–0 run to open a 20-point lead and never looked back. Nikola Mirotic led the charge with 19 points and 7 rebounds, while Mike James orchestrated the offense with 14 points, 8 assists, and 5 rebounds. Daniel Theis added 15 points, Alpha Diallo had 12 points, Kevarrius Hayes 11, and Jaron Blossomgame chipped in 10.

For Dubai, Mfiondu Kabengele led the way with 16 points and 6 rebounds. McKinley Wright and Filip Petrusev scored 14 apiece, as Petrusev also grabbed 8 rebounds, and Dzanan Musa scored 11 in defeat.

Monaco came out strong, with Daniel Theis converting a three-point play before three-pointers from Matthew Strazel and Mirotic gave the hosts an early lead. Kabengele kept Dubai close with 10 early points, cutting the deficit to 15–13. Diallo then hit back-to-back triples to stretch the margin to seven, Monaco’s largest lead of the opening quarter. Wright responded with two close-range buckets to make it 26–23 after 10 minutes.

In the second quarter, Hayes scored twice for Monaco, but Dubai rallied with a three-pointer and fast-break layup from Kosta Kondic, narrowing the gap to 34–32. Mirotic assisted Terry Tarpey on a corner triple, then scored 6 straight points to rebuild a 43–36 lead. Klemen Prepelic knocked down a three for Dubai, but James and Mirotic combined for 9 more points to keep the hosts in control. Still, Wright’s three-point play just before the buzzer made it 50–46 at halftime.

The second half was all Monaco. Mirotic and Theis each converted three-point plays, with James sinking a triple in between to spark a 9–2 run. After Petrusev and Theis traded threes and Musa completed a three-point play, Monaco responded with a dominant 17–0 stretch. Theis, Mirotic, and James led the charge, and Strazel capped the run with a three-pointer to make it 79–54. Davis Bertans finally ended Dubai’s six-minute scoring drought with a triple, but Monaco led 79–59 entering the final quarter.

Monaco opened the fourth with 6 quick points from Nemanja Nedovic and Elie Okobo, extending the lead to 87–61. Musa and Petrusev combined for 7 points in response, but it was too little, too late as Monaco maintained full control and cruised to a convincing victory.

In a thriller that went down to the final shot, Zalgiris Kaunas improved to 2-0 in the standings by downing defending champion Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul 84-81 in front of a sellout crowd at Zalgirio Arena on Friday. 

Nigel Williams-Goss led the winners with 20 points. Sylvain Francisco added 18 while Moses Wright had 11. Wade Baldwin paced Fenerbahce with 36 points, a new EuroLeague season high. Devon Hall added 12 while Talen Horton-Tucket had 10 for the guests, who dropped to 1-1.

Williams-Goss got Zalgiris off to a strong start, and Laurynas Birutis responded to Hall’s layup with a three-point play to make it 5–2. Williams-Goss continued to lead the hosts, knocking down back-to-back jumpers, but Khem Birch and Baldwin helped Fenerbahce close the gap to 9–7. Birutis then added a jump hook followed by an alley-oop slam, extending Zalgiris’s lead to 13–7. Nicolo Melli connected from beyond the arc, then Tarik Biberovic matched Williams-Goss’s floater with a driving layup. Williams-Goss, seemingly unstoppable, scored again, while Armando Bacot answered with a layup. Wright’s jumper pushed the hosts ahead at 19–14. Bacot scored inside, but Maodo Lo along with Azoulas Tubelis each got on the scoreboard before Baldwin brought Fenerbahce within striking distance at 23–20. Francisco and Wright each hit a triple to give Zalgiris a 29–20 advantage at the end of the first quarter.

Melli and Wright exchanged layups early in the second quarter. Onuralp Bitim drove to the basket for a score, and Baldwin answered Wright’s dunk with a rainbow jumper. Horton-Tucker knocked down a fadeaway shot, which was immediately matched by Williams-Goss with a driving layup. Dustin Selva capped a three-chance Zalgiris possession with a layup, followed by driving finishes from Hall and Francisco. Colson then trimmed the deficit to 39–36. Francisco found an open lane for an uncontested layup, forcing the visitors to call a timeout at 41–36. Baldwin split free throws, and Wright powered through traffic for a thunderous dunk, setting the score at 43–37 after 20 minutes.

 

Francisco set up Birutis for an alley-oop slam, found Sleva for a strong finish, and added free throws to give Zalgiris a 12-point lead at 49–37. Hall tried to shift momentum with a jump hook, followed by a wild driving basket from Horton-Tucker. Williams-Goss floated in a one-handed shot in the lane, and Baldwin responded with a jump hook and a close-range jumper to cut the deficit to 51–45. Horton-Tucker struck again, Francisco answered with a three-pointer, and Baldwin’s jumper kept Fenerbahce within reach at 54–49. Lo added a floater, then Francisco topped it with another triple. Tubelis improved Hall’s layup with a three-pointer of his own before striking again from deep to blow the game open at 65–51. Baldwin powered through for a dunk in traffic, closing the quarter at 65–53.

Francisco ignited the crowd with an acrobatic layup early in the fourth. Horton-Tucker answered, and Baldwin’s dunk cut the deficit to 67-57. Ulanovas kept Zalgiris afloat, but Baldwin hit free throws and fed Hall for a fast-break slam. Hall then found Baldwin for a transition triple, forcing a Zalgiris timeout at 69-64. Williams-Goss added free throws before Baldwin hit two more threes, making it 71-70 with under six minutes left. Hall drove to score, but Ulanovas and Francisco kept Zalgiris ahead, 74-72. Baldwin buried another three to give Fenerbahce its first lead, 74-75. Williams-Goss hit a floater, but Horton-Tucker tied it with free throws. Ulanovas nailed a triple, and Butkevicius bettered Baldwin’s jumper with his own three to make it 82-79 with 46 seconds left. Jantunen scored on a put-back before Williams-Goss hit free throws with 12.8 seconds remaining. He hit both attempts and Melli missed from beyond the arc second before the final buzzer.

At the other end, Matt Morgan led Virtus and all scorers on a game-high 24 points, while Carsen Edwards and Derrick Alston amassed 15 each for Virtus, which dropped to 1-1.

Real Madrid registered its first win in the 2025-26 EuroLeague season by downing Olympiacos 89-77 in the Spanish capital on Thursday. Both teams now have a 1-1 record in the standings. Mario Hezonja led the winners with 18 points. Gabriel Deck added 13 and as many as six other Real players scored between 6 and 9 points. Tyler Dorsey led Olympiacos with 20 points. Evan Fournier and Sasha Vezenkov each added 13 while Nikola Milutinov had 10 for the guests, who led 64-69 at the end of the third quarter.

Roig Arena opens tonight: A new era for Valencia Basket and the city

Tonight, October 3, Roig Arena will officially host its first basketball game, marking a historic milestone for [Valencia Basket](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/valencia-basket/pam/) and the city itself. Just a few hundred meters from the beloved Fonteta, this new arena represents a bold leap forward in how fans experience basketball – and much more.

With cutting-edge technology, world-class gastronomy, and a clear vision to become a European reference point, Roig Arena opens its doors as one of the most ambitious privately funded venues in the continent. 

We spoke with **Victor Sendra**, General Manager of Roig Arena and former GM of Valencia Basket, to understand the scope of the project, what fans can expect tonight, and what lies ahead.

**Q: Victor, tonight marks the first official game at Roig Arena. What does this moment mean to you and the team behind the project?**

"We’re incredibly proud. After years of dreaming, planning, and building, the moment has finally come. Seeing fans walk into this space, enjoy the experience, and watch Valencia Basket play here – it’s emotional. This arena was born from basketball, from Valencia Basket, and from Juan Roig’s vision. He believed the club had matured enough to take a major leap, and that’s exactly what Roig Arena represents."

**Q: The venue goes far beyond being a sports arena. What was the original inspiration behind this scale of ambition?**

"It all started in 1986 when Valencia Basket was on the verge of disappearing. Juan Roig and a few close friends stepped in to save the club. From there, we’ve experienced titles, cups, and in 2017, our first ACB League. That moment pushed us to think, 'What haven’t we done yet?' That’s when the idea of a venue that could host not just basketball, but year-round events and experiences, came to life. Juan Roig invested €400 million of his personal wealth into Roig Arena as part of his Legacy Project. It’s a gift to the city, to the region, and to Spain."

**Q: And now Roig Arena is ready. What sets it apart from other arenas in Europe?**

"The level is simply extraordinary. We studied arenas around the world, not to copy but to learn. The technology, the comfort, the food, the sound and lighting systems, the fan experience – everything has been designed to offer something truly world-class. We’re not exaggerating when we say this is one of the top venues in Europe. In fact, we’ve already had conversations with the EuroLeague, and they’re very impressed with what we’ve built. They’ve made it clear: this is the kind of arena they want to see in the EuroLeague ecosystem."

**Q: La Fonteta, L’Alquería del Basket, and Roig Arena are all in the same area. Was that intentional?**

"Absolutely. We didn’t want Roig Arena to stand alone. We’ve created what we call the Roig Arena Complex, a true hub of basketball and entertainment. It includes La Fonteta, L’Alqueria, a new public school, a 1,100-space parking lot, and over 20,000 m² of park space with basketball courts and open areas. It’s designed not just for game nights, but for everyday life and community use."

**Q: The technology has really impressed people. What role did LG play in bringing this vision to life?**

"LG has been a key partner. From the start, we knew that technology couldn’t be an afterthought – it had to be central. A venue like this needs an audiovisual soul. With LG, we’ve installed world-class screens, scoreboards, and digital systems. From the exterior displays to the indoor experience, it’s immersive and unforgettable. And we haven’t even seen a game here yet. Tonight will be the first."

**Q: One of the biggest surprises for fans has been the food offering. Wood-fired paella during a game? That’s new.**

"Yes – and it was a challenge! But we were committed to making gastronomy a core part of the experience, not just an add-on. We have food trucks, a gourmet market with six points of sale, and “Ultramarinos,” a concept that brings back traditional dishes and products. The Poble Nou restaurant is something special – you can sit, enjoy a proper meal, and watch the game through a panoramic glass wall. Every culinary detail reflects Valencian identity, and we’re very proud of that."

**Q: How do you balance this innovation with respecting traditional fans who loved Fonteta’s atmosphere?**

"We never forget where we come from. Valencia has a deep, passionate basketball culture. We haven’t changed our essence, we’ve just improved the experience. Roig Arena isn’t a bigger Fonteta, it’s a complete reimagining of what a basketball venue can be. Whether you’re a lifelong season ticket holder or a first-time visitor, there’s a space for you here, be it general seating, hospitality zones, or something in between."

**Q: Finally, after the DANA tragedy last year, how important is Roig Arena as a symbol of renewal for Valencia?**

"What happened with DANA left deep scars – physically, emotionally, economically. I was there, alongside the club, when we opened L’Alquería del Basket to host displaced families. Those were difficult days, but also filled with solidarity. That’s why we believe Roig Arena can help the city heal emotionally by offering people joy, excitement, and community again. As I always say: recovering emotion is part of recovering life."

**Q: What do you want people to feel tonight, when they enter the arena for the first time?**

"I want them to feel proud, to feel like this is theirs – because it is. This venue belongs to the fans, the city, and to everyone who believes in what Valencia can achieve. Tonight is just the beginning."

We are to approach it as a team and then of course, defensive transition, boxing out, not allowing second-chance points and then on offense, we just need to share the ball and try to punish them on the places where we think they are the weakest."

"We know they are going to come out with a reaction coming off their last game versus Zalgiris. For us, we have to stay together for 40 minutes. We have to stick to the game plan and be really good defensively. We have to take them out of transition and contain them, contain their key guys. We know it's going to be difficult, playing on the road and them coming off the game that they just had. So, the main thing is just staying together, keeping them out of transition and, you know, competing at a high level."

"We are aware that we are playing against one of the deepest rosters, one of the best teams in the EuroLeague. Nothing changed in the last couple of days. Our main focus is ourselves. We had a good practice yesterday, hopefully another good practice today and then ready to play the game. The most important thing is focusing on our own team."

"Hapoel may be one of the newcomers to this EuroLeague season, but their roster is filled with experienced players and they are led by an experienced coach who knows how to win. This combination makes them a very dangerous team. We need to be fully ready for a tough and intense 40-minutes battle."

"We’re playing against a team with a lot of experience – a club that’s been to many Final Fours, won the EuroLeague, and built another great team this year under a great coach. "Efes is an amazing team with a lot of great players and a rich history from everything I’ve seen and heard over the years. "We knew it was going to be a difficult week with three road games against tough opponents. We didn't do things well in the first game and were not up to what the game required from us, especially in terms of defense and toughness. We walked about it, analyzed it and practiced, and now we are looking forward to playing at a higher level in those aspects of the game we didn't do well the other night against an opponent with great potential like Panathinaikos. Those teams that managed to keep a core are seeing those players step up more than the new ones, which is normal. They added a player which will be more important. TJ Shorts, who played only two minutes \[against Bayern\] and had not played before. He will surely see more playing time from on. \[Cedi\] Osman may play, too. It is a deep team, built to be one of the candidates to win the EuroLeague. They have a player like Kendrick Nunn who seems to be standing out but all of their other players are very good, too. We have to do a great job as a team and a much better job on defense. We play on a different court in front of a great atmosphere. We have to play a good game and focus on Panathinaikos."

**Will Clyburn, Barcelona forward**

"We are focused. Obviously, this is a tough league and road games are hard to come by. And it is a long season, so we are going to focus on the next game, and the next game is Panathinaikos. First thing, \[we have to\] play smart, don't let them get their fans involved. When their gym gets going and their fans get involved, they are playing a lot harder. Play our pace, not they play theirs and that's about it. We have to play our type of basketball and not play theirs. I had no expectations here. I came here to help this team win. The other night was my night and I am pretty sure is going to be someone else's night soon. I am not going to lean on that. What I am going to do is lean on my defense, my rebounding and what I can do help the team. It is one game, we are not 20 games in. We are just going to go out there and play our game. I can't judge this team off one loss. It's a long season and obviously, the more games we play, the more games we are going to get better, so we will see. It is all about game plans. The only thing we can go is worry about ourselves and not them. We have to play our type of basketball and we will see how the outcome comes."

### Valencia Basket vs. Virtus Bologna (20:30 CEST)

**Pedro Martinez, Valencia head coach**

"All opponents are tough. Virtus has an excellent team, with very physical players inside and players outside who are very difficult to defend, such as Edwards, Vildoza, Pajola, and Morgan. They are players with a lot of scoring ability, they play very good defense, and obviously they are a very tough and very difficult opponent. But hey, we're playing in the EuroLeague, we're playing against the best teams in Europe, and obviously we already know that no one is going to give us any breaks."

**Dusko Ivanovic, Virtus head coach**

"Valencia is one of the best teams in transition and one-on-one play, as well as fast-paced action and solid offensive rebounding. They have many good players in one-on-one situations and have a high level of offensive intensity that is difficult for defenses to manage. Our goal will be to stop them in transition: our approach to defense will be crucial in containing them."

**Matt Morgan, Virtus guard**

"I think the first match against Real Madrid was a great test for us, but there are still many things to work on and to improve. The match ahead of us will be tough and intense, and it will take a lot of energy: let's play as a team and give it our all for 40 minutes, and we'll see what happens."

### Maccabi Rapyd Tel Aviv vs. Paris Basketball (21:30 CEST)

**Oded Kattash, Maccabi head coach**

"Paris is different. The way it plays offensively and defensively, it will be a really high-tempo game, really intense. They don't even care about shooting after 6-7 seconds, so we're going to have to sprint back on defense and be ready to play. They are a great offensive rebounding team, so we have to focus on that too. On the other side, offensively we have to keep it simple, we have to attack the right way. Very challenging second game in the EuroLeague season."

**Jaylen Hoard, Maccabi forward**

"We kind of made this our second home, so just being back and seeing familiar faces has been great. I'm really excited for our first game here. I don't think Paris plays like any team you've ever seen in Europe, like any team at all. They play very fast, they play very intense on both sides of the ball, their sets on offense are different, even their schemes defensively, so it's something you have to get adjusted to quickly. They come out the gate with a lot of energy, a lot of pace, so you need to be poised and focus and concentrate on the game plan."

"We need to bounce back. We know it was a tough game against Fenerbahce, the champions, on the road, and we definitely feel like we showed we can have the same impact as last year. Everybody wants to prove that we can still compete at the highest level in Europe."

## Thursday, October 2

### Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade vs. EA7 Emporio Armani Milan (20:30 CEST)

**Zeljko Obradovic, Partizan head coach**

"We decided to cancel today’s practice, considering that, given the demanding schedule, this was the best solution. Ahead of us is a game against Olimpia Milano, a team that played an outstanding game against Crvena Zvezda and had previously shown excellent form in the Italian Super Cup. Nevertheless, the focus must remain on us. I was surprised by the way we played against Dubai, bearing in mind that throughout the entire preparation period we played with much greater aggressiveness and had three very good practices before the trip. These are things we must change and pay close attention to, in order to prepare in the best possible way for the upcoming game against Milan."

**Arijan Lakic, Partizan forward**

"We need to realize the season’s already underway and be more locked in tomorrow, especially since Milan got a win yesterday. The key now is to get some rest, prepare the right way, and be ready for what’s going to be a tough game. We’ve got to keep looking forward, but with our focus fully on Milan. We need to recognize what adjustments have to be made and show improvement, and hopefully we’ll prove that tomorrow. Playing at home in front of our crowd means a lot, and we’re excited for that."

"We played well during the Super Cup weekend and again against Red Star, but the next one will be our fourth game in six days, and we'll need to control the minutes, the fastbreak that they are able to execute because of their powerful and athletic guards and work really well under the boards. It is going to be a very difficult game that we approach with the confidence we built over the past weeks."

"We're a brand-new team and we need to take it day by day. Belgrade has always been a second home to me; the atmosphere is always special. We have a lot of talent and depth in the squad, but we just need to focus on improving every day, including tomorrow."

"It’s very important that we started the season with a win. There are things we can improve as we go, but at this level you have to take whatever you can. There were plenty of storylines surrounding the big showdown between Real Madrid and Olympiacos Piraeus. First, it was a rematch of last season’s playoff series, where the Reds eliminated Real Madrid with a road win at Movistar Arena. Second, it added another chapter to a historic rivalry highlighted by four EuroLeague Championship Games in 1995, 2013, 2015, and 2023.

Shots stopped falling for Olympiacos – it made only one of its next 20 three-pointers – but the Reds still held a 64-69 lead at the end of the third quarter.

That’s when everything clicked for Real Madrid, fueled by an incredible home crowd. *Los Merengues* held their opponents scoreless for six minutes, with [Trey Lyles](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/trey-lyles/014117/) and [Andres Feliz](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/andres-feliz/011247/) sparking a 10-0 run that put Real Madrid ahead for good, 74-69. Campazzo hit a pair of free throws, found Hezonja for a mid-range jumper, and nailed a floater that pushed Real Madrid further ahead, 80-73. He then connected with [Walter Tavares](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/walter-tavares/005791/) for a one-handed slam and dished two more assists, allowing Hezonja and [Gabriel Deck](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/gabriel-deck/009005/) to extend the lead to double digits right at the buzzer.

Facu Campazzo had four points and four assists in the last four minutes to lead Real Madrid to an 89-77 victory over Olympiacos Piraeus. 

Campazzo makes the difference down the stretch

It all happened fast. Campazzo returned to the floor with 3:44 left and led a decisive 15-4 run with four points and four assists. He finished with 9 points and 8 assists, while Hezonja led the winners with 18 points and Deck added 13.

“I think the turning point was still in the first half. The second quarter was way better. I think some of our guys were not aware of the defensive potential of this team, of these players,” Coach Scariolo said after the game. “So they were there, but not there enough. You have to be with your hand up every time, force them to dribble, contest every shot. We’re a brand-new team. Everything is basically new.”

Brown, who won the player of the game award, was delighted with Partizan’s victory which put behind a tough 89-76 loss at Dubai Basketball in the opening round of Europe’s premier club competition.

“It’s always great to come here and perform for our fans,” Brown said in a courtside interview. “We bounced back from the last game and it was a good game tonight for everybody, not just for myself. Good to get one under our belt, we didn’t want to dwell too much on the last one as its’s going to be a long season.”

Carlik Jones echoed Brown’s views and praised Partizan’s diehard fans, who keep generating an electrifying atmosphere in the Belgrade Arena.

“I get the goosebumps every time I go down the tunnel as they keep shoring an amazing amount of passion,” he said. “It’s like having an extra player on the floor. We’ve got to do better with controlling the lead, it was ugly towards the end but we got the win and that’s all that matters to us right now.”

Milan’s sour-looking head coach Ettore Messina wad disappointed after the Italian team fell agonizingly short of doing the double in the Serbian capital, having steamrolled over Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade at the same venue on Tuesday, 82-92.

“It’s the second game in quick succession that we’ve had to face this kind of atmosphere and it’s going to be a long season for everybody,” he said. “After falling behind by 20, we were able to raise the level of our defense and our offense became faster, so I am very happy with how we played the second half.”
