Paris Basketball came close to winning its first-ever road game in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague on Friday night, but it was ultimately [forced into submission by EA7 Emporio Armani Milan, 79-74](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/news/olimpia-milano-grinds-out-tough-home-win-over-paris-basketball-79-74/), after the home team’s dynamic duo of [Shavon Shields](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/shavon-shields/007831/) and [Zach LeDay](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/zach-leday/008987/) took over in the second half of an enthralling matchup.

Shields nailed one clutch shot after another to score 19 of his game-high 21 points after the break while LeDay, back for a second stint with Milan after three seasons at Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade, chipped in with 13 points for the Italian outfit.

A strong start by forward [Nikola Mirotic](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/nikola-mirotic/000796/), who scored 14 of his 15 points in the first half, 10 of them in the first quarter, also made up for the absence of injured big man [Josh Nebo](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/josh-nebo/011199/) and several other key players, while guard [Neno Dimitrijevic](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/neno-dimitrijevic/006085/) added 9 points as he sank 3-of-7 shots from downtown. 

Shields acknowledged Milan need to improve on a patchy performance which was barely enough to beat EuroLeague debutant Paris, having [been brushed aside by AS Monaco, 93-80,](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/news/monaco-runs-past-milan-in-opener-93-80/) in the opening round.

“We have a long way to go as a team and I am just happy that we could come away with a win,” Shields told EuroLeague TV in a courtside interview. “It’s a huge one and every victory is super important in the battle to reach the playoffs, so we’ve just got to keep building from here.” 

Having singled out both Shields and LeDay, head coach Ettore Messina also paid tribute to a longtime friend and rival for honing the latter’s skills and turning him into a top performer.

“Zach always gives you something, whether it’s on offense or defense. He worked with Zeljko Obradovic at Partizan for a couple of years and when you have worked with such a great coach and you have something inside, you learn a lot,” Messina said.  “Zach has a lot inside him. It was a good experience and it’s a good thing that you can learn after a win, because it’s always more difficult if you have to learn after a loss.”

Messina also praised his team for showing a remarkable fighting spirit to claw out victory from the jaws of defeat, having closed out the see-saw contest with a 16-3 rally.

“Our rookies didn’t have a great game, they were up and down but we found defensive cohesion in the fourth quarter and Shavon stood out of course,” he stated. “We fought hard in the fourth and rebounded better, that was the key. Hopefully our young rookies will learn from this and I am sure they will.”

Paris head coach Tiago Splitter praised his team for a valiant effort against a more fancied rival but conceded that the French side was ice cold from the floor in crunch time. “You always want to win an at the end of the day, you’ve got to make shots in the last quarter,” the former Brazil international center said. “They made tough shots down the stretch, we didn’t, and we’ve got to improve.”

Despite leading since the tipoff, FC Barcelona was not enjoying a peaceful night [against the visiting ALBA Berlin](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/news/barcelona-goes-up-a-gear-to-beat-alba-88-73/) in Round 2. The visitors responded to each and every one of Barcelona’s attempts to pull away, and even when [Nico Laprovittola](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/nicolas-laprovittola/006435/) made it 53-44 midway through the third period, the German team was not ready to surrender.

An unexpected 0-10 spurt led by [Trevion Williams](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/trevion-williams-/012604/) and [Will McDowell-White](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/william-mcdowell-white/008062/) gave ALBA a shock 53-54 lead and a chance to win at a place it had never won at before, with just 2 minutes remaining in the third quarter.

“It’s extremely hard to play against them,” admitted FC Barcelona guard [Tomas Satoransky](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/tomas-satoransky/002939/) afterward. “They play one style of basketball – non-stopping, moving the ball, moving without the ball, screening for each other – so it’s very difficult, you have to guard all 24 seconds. We improved that in the second half, and thanks to [Dario \[Brizuela\]](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/dario-brizuela/009992/), who was on fire today, he helped us build the lead in the third quarter.”

Satoransky finished scoreless but dished 8 assists, some of which were to an unstoppable Dario Brizuela, who stepped up when his team needed him the most. He followed an [Alex Abrines](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/alex-abrines/003478/) triple with seven points in a row that capped a 10-0 run for the hosts that returned the lead to the home side at the end of the third period, 62-54, in the blink of an eye.

He continued after the break as he provided another bucket and a triple that raised his stat line to 16 points, with 12 having come in less than three minutes bridging the third and last periods. His last basket, with six minutes remaining and Barcelona leading 76-61, earned him a standing ovation from the home fans.

“It was important for us to get this way at home, first game at home,” Brizuela celebrated. “We struggled a little bit in the first half with simple things and I think we did a better job in second half, so we are happy about it. I was feeling good, and the team gave me a ball on the right spots, so I took advantage or that but it's a \[team\] job.”

Olimpia Milano came out on top in its Round 2 matchup against Paris Basketball, winning 79-74 to notch its first victory of the 2024-25 EuroLeague season.

EA7 Emporio Armani Milan eked out a hard fought 79-74 home victory over Turkish Airlines EuroLeague debutant Paris Basketball in Round 2 of the regular season, with Shavon Shields scoring 19 of his game-high 21 points in the second half of a thrilling contest.

Nikola Mirotic racked up 15 points and 6 boards for the home team, while Zach LeDay chipped in with 13 points as Milan fought back from a 63-71 deficit in a frantic climax to the game, denying Paris a first EuroLeague win.

Playmaker TJ Shorts shined for Paris with 17 points, 8 assists and 4 rebounds while Collin Malcolm posted 12 points for the visitors, who ran out of steam in the home stretch after threatening to stage a major upset at Unipol Forum.

Driven by an electrifying atmosphere generated by the home fans, Mirotic fired on all cylinders early on and sank 10 points in the first quarter as Milan took a slender 20-18 lead.

LeDay then came to the fore with a dunk followed by a three-pointer as Milan pulled away to 33-26 in the second quarter before Paris beefed up its defense in the closing stages of the first half.

With Milan committing 10 turnovers in the opening half while managing a mere 7 assists, Paris closed out the second quarter with a 2-13 run which saw the French side engineer a 35-39 lead, having taken better care of the ball and managed 9 assists while committing just 5 turnovers.

Buoyed by its strong finish to the first half, Paris carried on in the third quarter right where it left off in the second, extending its advantage to 43-50 before Milan turned the tables with a 15-7 rally. The home team edged ahead, 58-57, at the end of the third period thanks to a delicious buzzer-beating floater from Stefano Tonut, sparking loud celebrations from the home faithful.

Paris again found another gear early in the fourth quarter, carving out a 63-71 lead on the back of an inspired performance from Shorts, who toyed with his markers while hitting mid-range jumpers almost at will and dishing out assists like confetti.

Just when it looked like Paris was going to celebrate a famous win, the unstoppable Shields stepped up to the plate and propelled the final twist which saw Milan come out on top in a fascinating battle. With the home fans in raptures, Paris players were still able to walk off the court with their heads high after giving Milan a good run for its money.

Olympiacos BC registered its first win of the 2024-25 EuroLeague season by beating Zalgiris Kaunas in Round 2, but it ended up being more nervy than the hosts would have liked.

Olympiacos Piraeus registered its first win of the season on Friday night as it defeated Zalgiris Kaunas 74-68 in a big defensive battle at Peace and Friendship Stadium. Heading into next week's double-round, both teams hold a 1-1 record after two games.

The Reds had a dream start, especially on defense, as they allowed just seven points in the first 13 minutes of the game, but Zalgiris slowly found it footing. In the third quarter, the visitors finally cut the deficit to single digits, then used four fourth-quarter three-pointers to get within 67-65 in the penultimate minute. But Sasha Vezenkov took matters into his own hands, scoring an important basket, and Olympiacos prevailed. Vezenkov finished with a 17-point, 11-rebound double-double, and Evan Fournier had 15 points and 5 rebounds in the victory. Deividas Sirvydis netted 17 points, while Sylvain Francisco had 13 in defeat.

Olympiacos started with a suffocating defense, forcing three turnovers in less than the first 80 seconds, and Zalgiris already turned the ball over five times in less than five minutes. The Reds struggled offensively themselves in the early going, opening an 8-2 lead on a fast-break layup by Vezenkov. Ignas Brazdeikis and Edgaras Ulanovas kept the visitors in it, but Olympiacos kept its defense at a high level while running and scoring more in transition, including a buzzer-beating triple by Kostas Papanikolaou that made it 21-6 after 10 minutes.

Zalgiris's offensive struggles continued early in the second quarter, too, as the margin grew to 17 points. But Lukas Lekavicius hit a three-pointer to end Zalgiris's drought with 6:30 left in the half, then Alen Smailagic gave the visitors life with a three-pointer before taking it to the rim and cutting the margin to 27-15. But Olympiacos scored the next seven points, a run capped by a three-point play from Nigel Williams-Goss that made it 33-15. Francisco answered with a three-point play of his own, and the visitors continued battling and crashing the offensive glass, which is what kept them in the game. The score at halftime was 35-24.

Fournier and Deividas Giedraitis traded triples to start the second half, then the same two players traded driving layups. Vezenkovs baskets, and another bucket from Fournier helped open a 47-33 score, but Zalgiris was not going away. Arnas Butkevicius sparked a run, which also saw Sirvydis score on a fast-break to cut the margin to 48-41, yet Moustapha Fall and Fourrnier made sure the Reds take 52-43 into the final quarter.

Francisco hit from long range to make it 52-46 at the start of the fourth, but Vildoza and Papanikolaou each hit a wide-open triple from the right corner to restore a double-digit margin, 58-48. Alec Peters scored a layup and Filip Petrusev got to the free-throw line, but Sirvydis nailed three three-pointers and cut the deficit to 64-59 with 3:00 to go. A three from Francisco made it 67-65 with 1:24 left, but Vezenkov made a tough short jumper while drawing a foul. After he missed a free throw, Kostas Papanikolaou fought against Butkevicius and Sirvydis, drawing two more foul shots to give the hosts breathing room entering the final minute. The Reds held on, securing their first win of the season.

FC Barcelona celebrated its first home win of the 2024-25 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague season on Friday night as it beat the visiting ALBA Berlin 88-73 at Palau Blaugrana. 

Despite leading from the very beginning, the hosts couldn’t build a big advantage and saw ALBA take a 53-54 edge late in the third period. However, a 14-0 run at that moment, led by Dario Brizuela and Alex Abrines, turned the tables and put Barcelona in a commanding position the rest of the way. Barcelona improved to 1-1 while ALBA remained winless after two games.

Brizuela led Barcelona in scoring with 18 points in just 15 minutes. Kevin Punter followed with 14 and Jan Vesely had 10 for the winners. Martin Hermannsson paced ALBA with 13 points and 5 assists, while Will McDowell-White provided 12 points in 13 minutes in the losing effort.

The home team had an impressive start as Punter, Jabari Parker and Vesely combined as part of an 8-0 run in the first two minutes. With both teams running as crazy on both ends, Yanni Wetzell and Matteo Spagnolo took over on offense for ALBA, providing 4 points each to prevent Barcelona from running away with the game too early, 11-8. Khalifa Koumadje had an immediate impact when he stepped onto the court and he made it a one-point game soon after the first timeout. Barcelona found some relief from long distance, extending its lead to 19-12, but the visitors refused to back down and kept using Koumadje on both ends to stay close, 19-16, after 10 minutes.

The difference remained close early in the second period. Barcelona tried to make things more difficult on defense and forced some ALBA turnovers, but it had to wait until Chimezie Metu took over on offense with six points in a row, including a monster left-handed alley-oop dunk, to build a 28-21 edge. Nico Laprovittola joined the party and fed Willy Hernangomez twice to keep ALBA at arm’s length, 33-26, midway through the second quarter. Brizuela then came up big with a couple of buckets to make it 37-29, but once again ALBA’s resilience aborted the hosts’ attempts to pull away. A couple of buzzer-beaters, one from deep by Schneider – ALBA’s first triple to that point – and one layup by Wetzell saw the first half close with the Germans trailing 43-37.

Justin Anderson’s presence in the starting lineup for the second half gave Barcelona an extra boost on defense, while Vesely came up big on offense to construct a double-digit lead, 47-37, early after the intermission. Hermannsson came to the rescue with five consecutive points and a no-look assist that allowed ALBA hold on, 50-44. Laprovittola showed up from behind the arc to extend the gap to nine points, but he found no help from his teammates and Barcelona suddenly ground to a halt. A 0-10 run led by Trevion Williams and McDowell-White brought the guests back into the game and even allowed them to take the lead for the first time, 53-54, after 28 minutes. That’s when Brizuela decided to step up, scoring seven points in a row to launch a 10-0 spurt that helped Barcelona grab hold of the wheel at the end of the third period, 63-54.

Abrines opened the fourth with another triple of his own, while Brizuela remained hot and nailed one more jumper to make it 68-54 early in the last stanza. Wetzell tried to break the trend from the line, but Brizuela and Barcelona were already soaring. Brizuela struck again from downtown and scored a fast-break layup before receiving a standing ovation when he headed the bench with 18 points and his team clearly in charge, 78-64, with less than six minutes remaining. Despite ALBA’s efforts to gain some momentum again, Barcelona had already built confidence and just needed to swap baskets here and there to reach crunch time comfortably ahead, 82-71. The final blow came from the hands of Punter, who nailed back-to-back threes that put the game to bed.

A 14-0 run bridging the third and the fourth period proved crucial for the hosts

Panathinaikos improved its record to 2-0 win, while Bayern dropped to 1-1. Mathias Lessort led all scorers with 22 points and Kendrick Nunn scored 17. Devin Booker paced Bayern with 15 points.

Real Madrid has confirmed that guard [Andres Feliz](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/andres-feliz/011247/) has torn the plantar fascia on his right foot and is set for a spell on the sidelines.

The club has not stated how long the 27-year-old will be out for exactly. The injury occurred on Thursday night during [Los Blancos' Round 2 victory against Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/news/real-sinks-partizan-93-86-as-ibaka-excels-on-home-court-debut/) in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague.

Feliz joined Real Madrid in the summer after spending three seasons with fellow Spanish side Joventut Badalona. In his final campaign with Joventut, he was selected to the 2023-24 All-EuroCup Second Team and the 2023-24 All-Spanish League First Team.

Injury report, Round 2: Moustapha Fall on game-day roster, no Leandro Bolmaro for Milan

Nando De Colo is just the second-ever player in the EuroLeague to reach 4,500 points – joining Mike James.

The 4,500-point club contained just one man, [Mike James](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/mike-james/005985/), until Thursday night. During [LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne’s 87-85 triumph over Virtus Segafredo Bologna](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/news/neal-sakos-block-at-buzzer-gives-asvel-first-victory/) at the Astroballe, [Nando De Colo](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/nando-de-colo/002100/) joined James after scoring 16 points and moving to 4,502 points in his 297-game Turkish Airlines EuroLeague career.

Midway through the third quarter, De Colo stepped back from mid-range – forcing ex-CSKA Moscow teammate [Will Clyburn](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/will-clyburn/004888/) to touch the floor in the process – before seeing his shot drop and moving to 12 points, which took him one score shy of 4,500 points. In the end, he reached the 4,500-point mark by driving to the rim for a layup with 2:45 minutes to go in the fourth.

The Frenchman has wowed EuroLeague fans for 12 seasons now and even at 37, it still seems he has something left in the tank. There is no denying De Colo’s legendary status in the league, with just a faint glance at his roll of honors being enough to underline his greatness: two EuroLeague championships (2016, 2019), one EuroLeague MVP (2015-16), one Final Four MVP (2016), one Alphonso Ford Top Scorer Trophy (2015-16), and six All-EuroLeague selections – three in the First Team (2016-18) and three in the Second Team (2014-15, 2018-19, 2020-21).

But, how did De Colo make his way to 4,502 points and join James, the EuroLeague’s all-time leading scorer on 4,649 points?

### Bursting onto the scene with Valencia

His rookie EuroLeague season came back in 2010-11 after leading Valencia Basket to the 2010 BKT EuroCup title. Aged 23, De Colo looked right at home in Europe’s premier club competition, helping Valencia reach the Top 16 and later the playoffs. He scored in double figures in nine of his 19 appearances that year, netting a season-high 17 points at Zalgiris Kaunas in the fifth game of the Top 16. Valencia ended up falling in Game 5 of the playoffs to Real Madrid, but De Colo’s average of 10.1 points per night had caught the attention of many – particularly in the United States.

De Colo, who was selected with the 53rd overall pick by the San Antonio Spurs in the 2009 NBA Draft, ended up staying with Valencia as it dropped down to the EuroCup for the 2011-12 campaign, but the summer of 2012 saw him make his long-awaited move stateside. Between 2012 and 2014, he made 98 appearances for the Spurs and played 21 games for the Toronto Raptors before deciding to return to Europe with CSKA.

### Becoming a star at CSKA

A powerhouse on the old continent, De Colo’s arrival at CSKA saw the team become the outright favorite to win the EuroLeague, having reached three straight Final Fours but failed to get over the line in any of them. What CSKA got in De Colo was a new animal compared to the one EuroLeague fans had seen in 2010-11, with the Frenchman averaging 14.4 points per game (403 points overall) and scoring 10 or more points in 21 of his 28 appearances in 2014-15, including in eight games straight to start the Top 16. While CSKA made a fourth successive trip to the Final Four, it could not get past the semifinals.

The following season was arguably De Colo’s best-ever campaign in the EuroLeague. Impressively, he upped his scoring average by five points per game in 2015-16 (19.4 ppg.) and had a double-digit number of points in all but one of his 27 games as CSKA won its seventh EuroLeague title and its third of the modern ea. What’s more, De Colo scored 20 or more points 11 times, including 30 in the semifinal and 22 in the championship game. His total of 525 points was the first time he had broken the 500-point barrier. In the space of one year, De Colo had done enough to establish himself as the league’s best player.

There was no slowing down by De Colo to start the 2016-17 season, neither, as he averaged 19.4 ppg. and guided CSKA to a fifth straight Final Four. Again, he had just one single-digit game across 28 appearances, while he hit at least 20 points in 15 games, all of which were in the regular season. To date, the 2016-17 campaign remains the season in which De Colo has scored the most points: 534.

That said, the 2017-18 season was almost identical points-wise as De Colo poured in 533 points, albeit in four more games (32). CSKA made it to yet another Final Four – its sixth straight – and while the Frenchman remained one of the top players in the EuroLeague, there was an ever-so-slight comedown in relation to the previous two years. He still hit double figures for points in 27 of his 32 appearances, numbers any player in the league would be delighted with, but his scoring average dropped to 16.7 ppg., still a remarkable figure.

De Colo’s final year in Moscow came in 2018-19, and he went out with a bang. While he had his lowest scoring average since arriving in Russia, 14.7 ppg., he still had 10 points or more in 26 of his 34 appearances. In the postseason, De Colo notably increased his averages, averaging 18.0 points – and scoring 28 and 27 points, respectively in Games 3 and 4 – as CSKA swept Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz before posting 19.0 points at the Final Four. He had 23 points against Real Madrid in the semifinal and 15 in the championship game against Anadolu Efes Istanbul as he secured his second EuroLeague title. That year was the fourth straight season in which he had scored 500 or more points, finishing 2018-19 with 501.

### A new adventure

In the summer of 2019, De Colo signed for Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul, but it was a season to forget in 2019-20. Although De Colo did well on an individual basis, averaging 15.9 ppg. in 24 games (382 total points), Fenerbahce failed to make the playoffs – the first time that had happened to the Frenchman in the EuroLeague.

The following season, 2020-21, De Colo had the fifth 500-point season of his career as he finished with 507 points and averaged 15.8 ppg. in 32 games. Fenerbahce returned to the playoffs and had to face CSKA, with De Colo scoring 27 points in Game 1 and 22 points in Game 3, but it wasn’t enough as the Russian side swept the series.

Fenerbahce again missed the playoffs in 2021-22 in what proved to be De Colo’s last season at the club, with the veteran guard averaging 11.9 ppg. across 21 games in an injury-affected campaign. His 249 points that year was his lowest tally since his rookie season, when he had 191 points in 19 games with Valencia.

### Heading home

De Colo decided to come home to France in the summer of 2022 and managed to turn the clock back in 2022-23, scoring a total of 400 points (13.8 ppg.) in 29 games. In fact, he looked on course to break [Vassilis Spanoulis](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/vassilis-spanoulis/juo/)’s all-time scoring record of 4,455 points heading into the 2023-24 season.

However, an injury suffered in Round 15 meant De Colo had to watch on as Mike James surpassed both himself and Spanoulis en route to taking the all-time scoring mantle. De Colo finished last season with an average of 12.2 ppg. (256 total points) in 21 games and did ultimately go above Spanoulis in the all-time scoring charts, although James had created a sizeable gap at the top.

Entering the 2024-25 campaign, he knew he needed just 19 points to reach 4,500 points and managed to reach that total in Round 2. De Colo is still one of the premier players to watch in the EuroLeague, despite his age, and ASVEL fans will be hoping he can move as close to 5,000 points as possible this season.
