"I think we had an overall good game. I think we defended well enough except that at the beginning of the fourth quarter, we gave up too many penetrations. Melli sank a pair of free throws and after that we played great defense on their best one-on-one player. We need to keep working and recover our injured players. Today, we lost Gigi Datome two minutes into the game. We know it's a grind but the team showed character and I'm very happy."

"We fought until the end. We told the players that this has to be the mentality, but we have to sort out our turnovers and make less mistakes to win games in Europe.

"We came here knowing that it would be a very tough game and we didn’t have time to change a lot of things, defensively and offensively. We asked the players to react because we are not in a good situation the last two months. I think we made a good effort and played well as a team defensively, although we had some problems with defensive rebounds. That was realistic because we have some injured players and it was difficult to be at 100 percent for 40 minutes with a short rotation. In the end, I believe we had an opportunity to win the game. It’s a new beginning for us, we have to continue like this, but we have to start winning games."

"It came down to the little things. We wanted the ball a little bit more. We had to play a lot of one-on-one defense, and I've got to give the guys a lot of credit for stepping up and playing good defense. "It was all about the defense. We cannot control missing shots, as I said at halftime, but we need to focus on the things we can control, and it’s rebounding and fighting. We were lucky that we got the rhythm in the last 12 minutes of the game. I think we turned the game around, but we should have started like that, with the same attitude.

“I’m obviously happy for the result but there were two different halves, defensively. I wouldn’t even say a half, because in the first 27 minutes, we were not aggressive enough, we didn’t use the fouls smart enough. We were not consistent of what we do, but I’m very happy we found the way to turn this game over to get a win. The main thing is that we can’t worry about missing shots, like we had in the first half, but we can control about using fouls, one-on-one defense, boxing out, etc., all those things that make you be consistent. We've got to step up on those things to be able to win in the future."

"Congratulations to Maccabi. We were excellent for the first 32 minutes, but the last minutes of the last quarter cost us the game. We played excellent on offense and defense for the first three quarters, sharing the ball, playing as a team, moving the ball well. I believe that some big plays from Brown and Colson really cost us the game, but without two key players like Rubitt and Lucic, we put together a very good game and I’m just a little bit pissed off because I think we deserved more. The 6 free throws that were called on us, in front of my bench, totally changed the momentum because of our gifts I want to see now the video because it looks to me that both were not fouls, and 6 free throws in that moment is like a great push but it is what it is. My team fought, competed to the very end, we got 19 offensive rebounds without three players in the same position, 3-4, so there were a lot of good things for us except the scoreboard.”

"\[Coming back like this\] feels amazing. The most important thing is that we got the win. It was a great game on both ends. They made us work, and we have to appreciate that. We stepped up defensively \[in the second half\]; our main goal was to try to stop their main guys. They hit some though shots towards the end; sometimes it happens. But we got the win which is the most important."

The start of Round 25 in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague marks the return of Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul and Anadolu Efes Istanbul for the first time since their country and Syria were struck by earthquakes. Both teams will play in Round 25 wearing black jerseys.

According to figures released by Turkish authorities, more than 48,000 people have died across Turkiye and Syria since the 7.8 magnitude earthquake on February 6 and nearly 900,000 people have lost their homes and are living in tents.

Among the latest initiatives by EuroLeague clubs in support of the victims, LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne will donate a portion of all ticket sales from its Round 25 home game against Efes to a charity that directs aid to the stricken countries. 

ASVEL's star guard Nando De Colo, who spent the previous three seasons playing in Istanbul for Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul, helped the club's charity wing, the ASVEL Citoyen program, choose the Ahbap Association as the recipient of the funds. For every ticket sold to the game against Efes, €2 will be sent to Ahbap to be used to provide shelter, food and medical supplies to victims of the earthquake.

The gestures marking the return of Turkish teams to the court for the first time since the earthquake come on top of efforts made over recent weeks by players, coaches and clubs across the league to help the cause.

The closest EuroLeague team to the tragedy, Fenerbahce, featured a number of initiatives in support of the victims. Team captain Melih Mahmutoglu responded right away by raising money through the auction of a jersey signed by the Fenerbahce roster.

"I follow the earthquake disaster in our country with great sadness. In order to do our best, I have my jersey signed by the whole @FBBasketbol team and put it up for auction for our earthquake victims."

Mahmutoglu quickly took it a step further, having Efes guard Shane Larkin and his former Fenerbahce teammates Luigi Datome, Bogdan Bogdanovic and Luigi Datom signing the jerseys of their current teams and giving them up for an auction.

The auction raised nearly 27,000 euros, with money immediately and directly paid to Ahbap nonprofit organization directly involved in the earthquake relief efforts.

At the same time, club executives Dimitris Itoudis, head coach, Maurizio Gherardini, General Manager of Basketball Operations, and Derya Yannier, General Manager, pitched in to help deliver material donations at the Ulker Sports Hall.

On the European side of Istanbul, Efes star Shane Larkin, who is a member of the Turkish national team, broadcast an appeal for donations to his personal foundation that would be redirected to earthquake relief efforts, saying: 

"I feel like the best thing we can do at a time like this is come together. A lot of us can't be there in person, but a lot of us want to. I just want to announce that any donations that are made to the Shane Larkin Foundation will be sent directly to earthquake relief initiatives and organizations that are there, that can be there to help people get through this difficult time. This is a huge tragedy, but if we stick together and stay strong, I know that we can get through this. Let's just continue to keep these people in our prayers, and try to do some good. 

In addition, Shane Larkin Foundation, founded by the star guard, also collects donations to support the victims of earthquakes and transfers these donations to the official institutions.

Oher Efes players, like Erten Gazi, publicized through his social media channels the collection of relief supplies taking place at the Sinan Erdem Sports Hall, where Efes plays its home games.

Among the clubs that stepped up big-time, FC Bayern Munich announced a €100,000 donation to disaster relieve and also hosted a podcast with Tibor Pleiss, a German player for Efes, in which fans were encouraged everyone to donate.

Hours before the tip off of their game against Fenerbahce, Partizan president Ostoja Mijailovic announced that part of the funds that the club's foundation has raised this season will be directed to "aid for the victims of the recent earthquakes which left tragic consequences."

The foundation [Dobro pamtim sve](https://kkpartizan.rs/sr/vest/3063/osnovana-fondacija-kk-partizan) is financed by a percentage of the players' salaries in addition to different donations and charity events it organizes. The decision was made to donate 40% of the total foundation income.

In Athens, Panathinaikos actively participated in the initiative of the Hellenic Red Cross to collect humanitarian aid for the earthquake victims. For the two home games, a EuroLeague clash against Valencia Basket and a domestic league game versus Promitheas Patras long-lasting food, sleeping bags, blankets and personal hygiene items were collected to be immediately sent to those affected by the devastating earthquake.

The club keeps encouraging everyone to keep helping through the Hellenic Red Cross.

EuroLeague clubs step up for earthquake relief

The Euroleague Basketball Adidas Next Generation Tournament (ANGT) brings together the best young talents in Europe, and since its inception in 2002, some of the world's biggest and brightest talents have passed through. You may be familiar with their names today, but when they took part in the ANGT, they were still writing the first few pages in their basketball careers.

 

ANGT legends: Europe's best-ever starting five?   

The Euroleague Basketball Adidas Next Generation Tournament (ANGT) brings together the best young talents in Europe, and since its inception in 2002, some of the world's biggest and brightest talents have passed through. You may be familiar with their names today, but when they took part in the ANGT, they were still writing the first few pages in their basketball careers.

The name on everyone's lips right now is [Victor Wembanyama](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/victor-wembanyama/009553/), the projected No. 1 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. Just a few years ago, in 2019-20, the ex-LCLC ASVEL Villeurbanne forward took part in the Kaunas edition of the ANGT, averaging 15.8 points, 12.0 rebounds, 2.8 steals and 6.0 blocks. Wembanyama has already been tipped for greatness, but he first announced himself at the ANGT.

Another ANGT alumni who has shown his world-beating ability at the highest level is [Luka Doncic](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/luka-doncic/005929/), an NBA star with Dallas. The former Real Madrid guard was named the ANGT MVP in 2015 after leading Real Madrid to the ANGT title, having averaged 12.3 points, 8.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 1.3 steals. Doncic was soon impacting the EuroLeague, too, winning that competition's Rising Star Trophy in 2017 and 2018, when he was also the EuroLeague's full-season and Final Four MVP while leading Real to that season's continental title.

We all know Anadolu Efes Istanbul star [Vasilije Micic](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/vasilije-micic/002580/) for being a two-time EuroLeague champion, a two-time Final Four MVP and the 2021 EuroLeague MVP, but way back in 2010, the Serbian guard displayed his promise at the ANGT Belgrade qualifying tournament. Micic played an important role as FMP finished first, leading his side with a team-high 14 points, along with 3 rebounds and 4 assists in the final against INSEP, that season's eventual overall champion after winning a rematch with FMP in which Micic did not participate.

Like Doncic and Micic, another player who shined at the ANGT before going on to be named the EuroLeague MVP is current FC Barcelona forward [Nikola Mirotic](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/nikola-mirotic/000796/). Playing for Real Madrid, Barca's archrival, Mirotic showcased his talent in the 2008 edition of the ANGT in the Spanish capital before confirming his status as one of Europe's most promising players at the ANGT L'Hospitalet qualifier a year later. In Real's final group-stage game against FMP, Mirotic had a 35-point, 23-rebound double-double and also recorded 2 assists, 9 steals and 6 blocked shots for a PIR of 84, which remains a tournament record to this day.

Last but not least, [Bogdan Bogdanovic](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/bogdan-bogdanovic/002821/) featured in the 2010 ANGT for FMP, averaging 10.8 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.8 steals in four games. He went on to be named the EuroLeague Rising Star in 2014 and 2015 after shining with Partizan NIS Belgrade and Fenerbahce Ulker Istanbul, respectively, while he also became a EuroLeague champion with the Turkish team in 2017. Now plying his trade in the NBA for the Atlanta Hawks, Bogdanovic was able to use the ANGT as a way of propelling his career forward.

Two of the most productive centers in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague this season will go head-to-head for the first time in the competition when Mathias Lessort of Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade and Johnathan Motley of Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul face off on Thursday night in the Serbian capital.

Two of the most productive centers in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague this season will go head-to-head for the first time in the competition when [Mathias Lessort](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/mathias-lessort/003842/) of Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade and [Johnathan Motley](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/johnathan-motley/011157/) of Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul face off on Thursday night in the Serbian capital.

Lessort, 27, is playing for a fourth different team in as many seasons in the EuroLeague and posting career-best numbers across the board. That includes averaging a PIR of 20.1, which ranks him second this season, and playing 31:00 minutes per game, ranking him sixth.

Motley, who is five months older than his Partizan counterpart, is in his first EuroLeague campaign and has been equally dominant. He has earned a pair of MVP of the Round honors and sports the second-best per-40 minutes PIR (28.8).

Lessort enters Round 25 having pulled down the most rebounds this season, 173. On average, he's been worth 7.2 boards per game, which ranks third. Lessort is also the league leader with 3.2 offensive rebounds per game. Motely is just behind, averaging a second-best 3.0 offensive boards, and ranking sixth with 6.0 rebounds per game.

Offensive rebounding is not the only category where these two sit one behind the other atop the EuroLeague rankings.

No two players this season have more two-point shots made than Lessort, who leads the league with 114, and Motely who has 110, but in four fewer appearances, which makes him the league leader with 5.5 two-pointers made per contest. 

Lessort has done it with a significantly higher accuracy, but has not made more than 8 shots in any of the games. On the other hand, Motley is the only EuroLeague player this season who managed two games with double-digit two-point shots made, including 11-for-14 shooting in a Round 16 road loss against Virtus Segafredo Bologna, tied for the most two-point shots made in a single game since March 2021.

Lessort's consistency is best showcased by his posting double-digit PIRs in a league-high 23 of his 24 appearances this season. In addition, the Partizan big man has accumulated six double-doubles so far, which is the second-most in the competition. 

Motley not only averages 22:54 minutes per game, nearly 8 fewer than Lessort, but he also missed four games due to an injury. That included the Round 15 home clash between these two clubs in which Partizan pulled out a come-from-behind 72-73 win. Lessort had 12 points and 4 rebounds that night.

My team, Gancedato, had a good week just like every team that had Sasha Vezenkov of Olympiacos Piraeus as team captain. Vezenkov earned 88 fantasy points, Paris Lee of Panathinaikos had a PIR of 26 and all other starters got at least 16.5 points. Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv lost, so I got a negative score from Coach Oded Kattash. Even so, I scored 192.94, earned 1.7 extra credits and climbed into 2,358th place in the overall standings. Of course, as the season goes on, it will be harder to rise (or fall) in the overall standings.

As I said, five trades plus the head coach are allowed this week due to the extraordinary circumstances. I am selling Coach Kattash mainly because I found a cheaper boss whose team I think will win and that's Ettore Messina of EA7 Emporio Armani Milan. The only reason I took him out in Round 24 was because Milan's game was postponed. I am selling most of my bench players: Laurynas Birutis of Zalgiris Kaunas plays against Real Madrid center Walter Tavares so it may not be a good idea. For similar reasons, I am selling Ignas Brazdeikis. Yves Pons of LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne and Josep Puerto of Valencia Basket have seen limited playing time lately and Mike James of AS Monaco plays against FC Barcelona at Palau Blaugrana. It is always hard to play well there as a visitor.

I am bringing back [Shane Larkin](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/shane-larkin/007200/) of Anadolu Efes Istanbul. My first choice for Round 25 MVP is Vezenkov, but I own him already, so I am going for the player who I think will get the highest PIR. I am buying [Niklas Wimberg](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/niklas-wimberg/005478/) of FC Bayern Munich because his teammate Augustine Rubit went down with an injury. I am adding [Moustapha Fall](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/moustapha-fall/008811/) of Olympiacos because I think he has an advantage against Valencia's frontcourt. That leaves me with limited credits for a guard and a forward, so I am going for two well-rounded EuroLeague players who can make it rain from downtown: [Lukas Lekavicius](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/lukas-lekavicius/003210/) of Zalgiris and [Mario Hezonja](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/mario-hezonja/003108/) of Real.
