Panathinaikos adds center Gudaitis
Panathinaikos OPAP Athens has bolstered its frontcourt by signing Arturas Gudaitis for the upcoming season, the club announced on Wednesday. Gudaitis (2.08 meters, 29 years old) arrives from Basket Napoli, where he averaged 7.4 points and 5.3 rebounds in seven Italian League games last season. He started the 2021-22 season with Zenit St Petersburg and averaged 6.7 points on 61.0% two-point shooting and 4.2 rebounds in 17 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague games. Gudaitis helped Zenit reach the EuroLeague Playoffs in 2021 for the first time in club history.
Born in Klaipeda, Lithuania, Gudaitis started his career in his own country, playing for Klaipedos LCC TU, Gargdzai Bremena and Zalgiris Sabonio krepsinio centras before joining Zalgiris in 2013. He helped Zalgiris win back-to-back Lithuanian League championships in 2014 and 2015 and lifted the Lithuanian Cup in his second season. He went on to play for Rytas Vilnius and won another Lithuanian Cup in 2016 before moving to AX Armani Exchange Milan, with which he won the Italian League in 2018. Gudaitis has also been a member of the Lithuanian national team. In 144 EuroLeague career games with Zalgiris, Milan and Zenit, Gudaitis has amassed 1,277 points and 710 rebounds.
