Panathinaikos Athens has signed Kyle Guy for the next two seasons, bolstering its firepower from long range in the process. Guy (1.88 meters, 26 years old) is a shooting guard who had a breakthrough campaign in the 2022-23 BKT EuroCup with Joventut Badalona. He started in nine of his 21 appearances in that competition, averaging 11.8 points, 1.7 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 22:13 minutes on the court during his debut year in Europe. Next season, Guy will make his Turkish Airlines EuroLeague debut when he first steps onto the floor for Panathinaikos.

Kyle Guy can catch fire
Guy was one of the main factors in Joventut reaching last year's EuroCup Semifinals, scoring a double-digit number of points in 11 of his 18 regular-season appearances. Notably, Guy scored a career-high 25 points in Round 11 against Frutti Extra Bursaspor, with 15 of those points coming from 5 made three-pointers. Between Rounds 11 and 16, the American reached double digits for points in six straight games. With the absence of Pau Ribas due to injury, Guy also showed his playmaking ability in the EuroCup Playoffs, pairing 13 points with 7 assists in the eighthfinals against the London Lions and 7 points with 8 assists in the quarterfinals against Hapoel Vegan Friendly Tel Aviv. In Joventut's elimination to Gran Canaria in the semifinals, he posted 9 points and 3 assists.
In the playoffs of the Spanish League, Guy made himself even more of a fans' favorite among Joventut supporters by exploding in the quarterfinals against Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz. After scoring 36 points on the road in Game 1, he followed up with 22 at home in Game 2 to seal Joventut's place in the semifinals. There, Guy dropped 30 points against Real Madrid at WiZink Center in Game 1 as Joventut stole a road game, while he also had 20 points in Game 3 at Palau Olimpic de Badalona, but that came in a loss. Joventut lost the series 3-1, but Guy's playoff heroics will live long in the memory for many of the club's fans.
A star in college
Many people across the world were first introduced to Guy during the 2019 NCAA Final Four, as the University of Virginia star hit 3 consecutive three throws with 0.6 seconds remaining against Auburn University, which ensured that Virginia reached its first-ever championship game. Then, with the title on the line, Guy had 24 points as Virginia defeated Texas Tech University 77-85 in overtime to become the NCAA champion. Guy was named the NCAA basketball tournament Most Outstanding Player for his efforts.
Soon after, Guy began his career in the NBA with the Sacramento Kings, while he also featured for the team's G League side, the Stockton Kings. In the summer of 2021, the sharpshooter signed for the Cleveland Cavaliers before joining the Miami Heat at the end of that year. Guy had a brief spell with Cleveland's G League affiliate, the Cleveland Charge, in March 2022, then last summer he agreed to come to Europe for the first time by signing for Joventut. Now, he is readying himself for his second season in Europe – and his first in the EuroLeague – after signing for Panathinaikos.
