In the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague roll call we take a look at five players that had a big impact on their respective games for Round 14.
Round 14 roll call: Calathes, Dozier, Miller-McIntyre, Nebo, Nedovic
Nedovic paced Zvezda to much-needed win
Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade got back onto the winning track with a convincing 85-71 win over ALBA Berlin, and Nemanja Nedovic played a major role in the triumph. Nedovic topped all scorers in the game with 20 points as he knocked down 4 of 7 three-point shots and also 4 of 5 two-pointers. Not only playing the role of a scorer, Nedovic also tied for a team-high 5 assists, blocked 1 shot and took 1 steal for a PIR of 24. What's more, the Zvezda guard did all that in just under 22 minutes on the floor.
Nebo did it both ways, in either half
Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv protected its home floor away from home with a balanced effort against Anadolu Efes Istanbul, and starting big man Josh Nebo did a little bit of everything in the 95-86 victory. Nebo collected 8 points on 4-for-6 shooting around the rim, pulled down a team-high 9 rebounds, including 3 on the offensive glass, and also delivered a career-high 4 blocked shots. Intrestingly, Nebo compiled all of his points and offensive rebounds, as well as 2 blocks, in the first half. Then, after the break, he had his other 2 blocks and pulled down 5 defensive rebounds.
Dozier was huge in Partizan's road success
PJ Dozier has been coming into his role with Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade as of late, and his performance in an 85-93 road win over Zalgiris Kaunas was more proof of that. Dozier did not allow his struggles from long range, where he shot 0-for-4, prevent him to contribute everywhere else. The Partizan guard scored 16 points, converting on 5 of 7 two-pointers, and drew 6 fouls that he turned into 6-of-7 free throws. He pulled down 7 rebounds, including 3 on offense, dished 4 assists, had 2 steals and 1 block. His PIR of 27 was his highest in his 14 EuroLeague appearances. Dozier’s contribution was so instrumental that he played the first 26 minutes of the game before taking his only break on the bench late in the third and early in the fourth quarter.
Miller-McIntyre flirted with a triple-double
There have been only three triples-doubles – and those by two just different players Nikola Vujcic and Nick Calathes – in EuroLeague history. On Thursday night, Codi Miller-McIntyre came close to joining this exclusive club. The Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz ended up on the losing end of an 81-91 decision against visiting Virtus Segafredo Bologna, but it wasn’t for his lack of trying. Miller-McIntyre collected 10 points, 13 assists and 8 rebounds for the hosts, which is arguably the most complete statistical game by any player this season. His 13 assists are also tied for the season-high through 14 rounds, but it was not enough to lift Baskonia over Virtus.
Calathes went for a season-best night on the glass
When you think of someone grabbing a double-digit number of rebounds, Nick Calathes of Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul is unlikely to be the first player you consider. Well, on Friday night, he grabbed more rebounds than any other player during Fenerbahce’s game against AS Monaco, as he secured 10 boards: 4 on the offensive end and 6 on the defensive glass. That is Calathes’s highest tally for rebounds this season and just the second time he has grabbed 5 or more in 2023-24. However, it was still shy of the career-best 13 boards he recorded on two occasions: once in 2021-22 and once in 2022-23. Against Monaco, Calathes’s activity on the boards allowed Fenerbahce to have some fastbreak opportunities and also second-chance situations in Monaco’s half. All in all, it was a good night’s work by the veteran guard.
