Storylines: Stars with new homes

Some of the biggest stars in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague changed clubs over the summer, which has led to plenty of intrigue among supporters. Four former EuroLeague MVPs are among a host of household names who will be looking to hit the ground running in new uniforms for the 2022-23 season.

Vesely's new challenge in Barcelona

Jan Vesely packed his bags and left Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul after eight years at the club to join FC Barcelona this summer. The 2019 EuroLeague MVP, who won a EuroLeague title with Fenerbahce in 2017, will link up with Czech national team teammate and close friend Tomas Satoransky at Palau Blaugrana. Barca hopes that both will help end the club's wait to lift its first EuroLeague trophy since 2010. Should the 32-year-old Vesely reach the heights that many Barca fans are expecting from him, a very successful season could be in store.

Davies, Pangos head to the Fashion Capital

The last time center Brandon Davies and point guard Kevin Pangos were teammates and both were healthy, they led Zalgiris Kaunas to the 2018 Final Four. And that's exactly what EA7 Emporio Armani Milan hopes to see this season. Davies, 31, arrives in the Fashion Capital after three seasons and a pair of Final Four appearances with FC Barcelona. Pangos was on the Barcelona books in the first of Davies's seasons there, but didn't play any EuroLeague games due to injury. He bounced back and was an All-EuroLeague First Team selection just two seasons ago with Zenit Saint Petersburg. They and fellow experienced arrivals Johannes Voigtmann, DeShaun Thomas and Pangos's former Zenit teammate Billy Barron have Milan's sights set high again.

New stars on Istanbul's Asian side

Two-time EuroLeague champion head coach Dimitris Itoudis has landed at Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul to find a host of new players with whom to mount a title challenge. After coaching Nick Calathes on the Greek national team, Itoudis will rely on the EuroLeague's all-time leader in assists to run his offense. Alongside Calathes will be high-scoring guard Scottie Wilbekin, who once replaced Calathes at the University of Florida, but the two have never played together until now. Another big name on the Asian side of Istanbul is Nemanja Bjelica, who was the EuroLeague MVP for 2014-15 with Fenerbahce and has played the last seven seasons in the NBA.

Chacho back on familiar ground

They say that absence makes the heart grow fonder, which seems to be the case with Sergio Rodriguez and Real Madrid. Six years after leaving Los Blancos, the 2014 EuroLeague MVP is back at WiZink Center in search of his third EuroLeague title. Rodriguez was vital in a super-sub role as Real became EuroLeague champs in 2015 and, despite now being 36 years of age, he still has plenty to offer, as he showed during the last two campaigns with Milan. Together with the 34-year-old Sergio Llull and the 37-year-old Rudy Fernandez, Real's trio of veterans should offer plenty of stability as Chus Mateo begins his era as head coach.

Efes further strengthens with Clyburn

After winning the last two EuroLeague titles, Anadolu Efes Istanbul showed no signs of slowing down this summer, signing 2019 EuroLeague Final Four MVP and champ Will Clyburn. When news first began to filter out that Efes had struck a deal to sign Clyburn, and then that Shane Larkin and Vasilije Micic would both be staying on the roster, the basketball community immediately began to talk seriously of a historic EuroLeague three-peat for head coach Ergin Ataman's team. How the three of them – plus fellow arrivals Achille Polonara and Ante Zizic – try to meet those lofty expectations will be fascinating to watch.

De Colo returns home

When Nando De Colo first left his native France in 2009 to join Valencia Basket from Cholet Basket, it did not take him long to make an imprint on European basketball; he became a 7DAYS EuroCup champion in 2010 and was also named to the All-EuroCup First Team that season. In the years that followed, he became the EuroLeague MVP in 2016 while playing for CSKA Moscow and also lifted EuroLeague titles with the Russian team in 2016 and 2019. Now, following three years with Fenerbahce and at the age of 35, De Colo has decided that now is the time to return to France. With the guard signing for LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne, one of France's favorite sons is home at last.
