Six ASVEL players netted at least 12 points each as the French side grabbed a second straight win
Theo Maledon leads the way as ASVEL downs Barcelona, 100-94
LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne grabbed its second victory in a row by edging FC Barcelona 100-94 on Friday night at LDLC Arena. The hosts saw half of the 12 players who stepped on the floor score in double digits and led for most of the game to clinch a victory that improved their record to 11-12. Barcelona’s four-game winning streak came to an end, with the visitors dropping to 13-10.
Theo Maledon paced ASVEL with 18 points and 9 assists, and Andre Roberson scored 17. Paris Lee and Neal Sako netted 14 each, and Tarik Black and Nando De Colo bagged 13 and 12 points, respectively. For Barcelona, Kevin Punter led all scorers with 19 points, Jabari Parker had 18, Chimezie Metu nailed 16 and Dario Brizuela added 12 in a losing effort.

An exchange of blows in the opening stages saw ASVEL take a 7-5 lead following a three-point play from Maledon. Kevin Punter responded with a trademark mid-range jumper and Parker drilled a corner triple to tie it up at 10-10. Maledon nailed a three on the other end, but a Punter bucket and five straight points from Brizuela put Barcelona ahead, 15-17. Yet, five points by Black were followed by a triple from De Colo to give ASVEL a 23-21 edge after 10 minutes.
Metu scored inside to open the second quarter but David Lighty connected from downtown to maintain a 28-25 lead. Buckets from Maledon and Neal Sako sandwiched a triple by Lee, with ASVEL opening a 37-28 lead. But Willy Hernangomez and Punter netted inside before a triple from Joel Parra cut the deficit to 39-35. Maledon ended Barcelona’s 0-7 run with a three before Joffrey Lauvergne’s first score of the night gave ASVEL a 44-38 cushion. Parker drained one from deep on the other end, but Lauvergne netted inside off a smart Maledon dish to restore a 48-42 lead at halftime.
Tomas Satoransky responded to a Lighty triple with a three-point play, but Sako posterized Jan Vesely before Lee and Roberson netted one each from downtown to make it 60-47. Alex Abrines and Roberson traded buckets off the glass before the latter landed another three that stretched the lead to 65-51 midway through the third quarter. Barcelona answered with a 0-7 run fueled by Metu, who took his tally to 11 points. But De Colo nailed a triple, with Lauvergne and Black netting in the paint to restore a 74-63 cushion. Then, Black and Metu exchanged scores inside, with ASVEL taking a 76-79 lead into the closing quarter.
The game turned into a back-and-forth affair, as Black and Lee got ASVEL going in the fourth with back-to-back buckets, but baskets from Anderson and Vesely brought Barcelona within 80-77. Punter netted a floater and Parker nailed one from beyond the arc to make it 84-82. Then, Parker hit another one, but Roberson responded with a three-point play for an 89-85 cushion. Satoransky and Roberson traded baskets, but Punter scored 5 straight points to make it 93-92. Vesely tied it from the line, but Lee drained one from deep for an 86-93 lead. A turnover from Brizuela on one end was followed by a couple of free throws made by De Colo on the other to seal the outcome.
