Two-time EuroLeague champion Gustavo Ayon played his final game on Sunday in an exhibition against the Mexican national team. One of the top centers of his generation, The 37-year-old Ayon played five of his six Turkish Airlines EuroLeague seasons with Real Madrid. He joined the club in 2014 and helped Los Blancos win the EuroLeague that season and again in 2018. He was also named to the All-EuroLeague Team after both the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons. Ayon played his final EuroLeague season with Zenit St. Petersburg in 2019-20.
Ayon began his professional career with Halcones de Xalapa in Mexico and also played briefly in Venezuela before first coming to Spain in 2009 when he signed with Fuenlabrada. He then spent three season sin the NBA, where he suited up for New Orleans, Orlando, Milwaukee and Atlanta before returning to Spain for play for Real. Ayon played the final seasons of his career with Astris de Jalisco in Mexico and Capitanes de Arecibo in Puerto Rico.
