Valencia Basket and Martin Hermannsson are set to keep working together until the end of the 2023-24 season, the club announced on Friday. Hermannsson (1.90 meters, 27 years old) averaged 8.7 points on 43.9% three-point shooting across 20 games, while he ranked eighth in assists at 5.3 per night. In the 2021-22 season, his second at Valencia, Hermannsson helped his team reach the 7DAYS EuroCup semifinals. In his team's final game of the Spanish League campaign, however, he broke the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee and is expected to be out for the best part of the 2022-23 campaign.

Hermannsson joined Valencia from ALBA Berlin, where he made his Turkish Airlines EuroLeague debut. He helped ALBA win the German League and Cup titles in 2020. He was the MVP of the German Cup and averaged 14 points in the league finals as ALBA ended a 12-year drought as national club champion. In 2019, Hermannsson and ALBA reached the EuroCup Finals, losing against Valencia.
He started his career with KR Reykjavik of his native Iceland. He has also played for Long Island University in the NCAA, as well as for Etoile Charleville-Mezieres and Champagne Chalons-Reims Basket of France. He is also a regular member of the Icelandic national team.
