LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne forward Victor Wembanyama is one of the top prospects in basketball and just had his first monster performance in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague.
Wembanyama showcased his skills
Wembanyama showcased his many skills in Round 31 against Zalgiris Kaunas, finishing the game with several career-high marks. He had personal bests in points (14), assists (2), steals (2), blocked shots (5) and PIR (23). His presence was felt at Zalgirio Arena, changing many shots and looking for advantages in one-on-one opportunities.
"I think it is just the natural course of things. I know it is just the beginning. I am really confident," Wembanyama said after the game. "I know this season hasn't been perfect, there were a lot of things we couldn't control, collectively and individually, but I know it is the natural way of things. It is going to be better and better."
Wembanyama had a couple of blocks in the first quarter and did a little bit of everything right before the break, getting a couple of dunks to help ASVEL to a 32-33 lead at halftime. He immediately scored after the break and blocked a few more shots. He collected a steal, fed Youssoupha Fall for an assist and sank a turnaround jumper. And his impact was felt.
"He has to get stronger, and he works every day really hard. He deserves the minutes he gets on the court and if he keeps listening the way he is, he will get more and more playing time," ASVEL head coach TJ Parker said after the game. "He is a guy I also trust to be at the end of the game. He is big for us."
