Things did not look good for Zalgiris Kaunas during its game against Valencia Basket at La Fonteta when Klemen Prepelic hit a deep three-pointer to put the hosts 71-67 ahead with 4:53 remaining.
Zalgiris leaned on vets to seal the deal at Valencia
Zalgiris called a much-needed timeout and improved its defense right away, but it still needed answers on offense. That's when Tyler Cavanaugh appeared. First, Cavanaugh hit a catch-and-shoot baseline jumper off an inbound pass by Keenan Evans. Then, soon after, he added a wide-open three-pointer off a perfectly timed two-on-two situation in which Chris Jones and Bojan Dubljevic double teamed Evans, leaving Cavanaugh wide open.

Cavanaugh had 5 points in a 0-9 run that put Zalgiris ahead for good, 71-76. Once Valencia got within 75-76, it was time for Edgaras Ulanovas, Zalgiris's team captain, to leave his mark on the game. Ulanovas drew two fouls in the final 21.6 seconds and hit all 4 free throws to win the game, 76-80.
If you look at the stats, neither Cavanaugh nor Ulanovas seemed to have a major impact on the game. Cavanaugh only had those 5 points, but in a really critical moment. Ulanovas finished the game with 6 points. Both of them combined for Zalgiris's last 9 points, however, effectively making the difference in the game.
