The Turkish Airlines EuroLeague has set a new benchmark for fan engagement, with the 2024-25 regular season becoming the most attended in the competition’s history. The average attendance reached a record-breaking 10,589 spectators per game.

The Turkish Airlines EuroLeague has set a new benchmark for fan engagement, with the 2024-25 regular season becoming the most attended in the competition’s history. The average attendance reached a record-breaking 10,589 spectators per game, surpassing last season’s mark of 10,383 and representing a 2% increase, an average of 206 additional fans per game. For the fourth consecutive season, the attendance record has been broken, highlighting the strong bond between the fans and the league.

A total of 3,039,060 spectators attended EuroLeague games throughout the season, 38,219 more than the previous year. Notably, eight clubs sold at least 90% of their available tickets, up from six the previous season. This figure could have been even higher as Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv was forced to relocate its home games to Belgrade due to external circumstances, often playing with limited capacity or no spectators.

Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade once again led the league in both average attendance, 18,486, and fill rate (98%), closely followed by Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade with 18,239 spectators per game and a 94% fill rate. Olympiacos Piraeus also recorded a 94% attendance rate during the regular season, with an average of 11,546 fans attending each game. The league-wide average fill rate of 84% marked a 2% increase from the previous season, highlighting the EuroLeague’s growing connection with fans across Europe.

FC Bayern Munich recorded the highest growth in attendance, with a 75% year-over-year increase following the move to the new, state-of-the-art SAP Arena, which seats 12,500. Bayern averaged 10,872 spectators per game with a 97% fill rate.

Reigning champions Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens also saw a remarkable 17.8% increase in average attendance, driven by their 2024 title win in Berlin and the upgrades made to the historic OAKA arena. Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul, a Final Four semifinalist, posted a 10.46% increase, with an average crowd of 10,785.

With seven clubs averaging more than 10,000 spectators per game, the EuroLeague continues to set the standard for professional basketball in Europe, both on the court and in the stands.

The renewed agreement, secured by Euroleague Basketball’s strategic partner IMG, builds upon a successful collaboration that began in 2016 and reaffirms the Sports Channel’s position as the premier destination for top-tier European basketball in Israel. As part of the deal, the Sports Channel will continue to broadcast all EuroLeague games live, including the high-stakes Play-In Showdown, Playoffs, and the Final Four.

Boasting a team of top-tier commentators—such as Niv Raskin, Ofer Shelah, and former EuroLeague champion Gur Shelef—the Sports Channel will continue to deliver high-quality, insightful coverage for fans across the country.

The extended agreement ensures Israeli fans will continue to enjoy top-level coverage of Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv and 2025 EuroCup Champion Hapoel Shlomo Tel Aviv as they compete against Europe’s elite, including Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, FC Bayern Munich, Olympiacos Piraeus, and Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens.

- Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade has been sanctioned with fines amounting €14,000 for offensive chants by its fans and the throwing of objects onto the playing court during the game FC Bayern Munich - Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade, under Article 29.2.f) and 29.2.g) of the Euroleague Basketball Disciplinary Code.

 

- Mr Nemanja Vasiljevic, General Manager of Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade, has been sanctioned with a fine of €8,000 for committing acts representing a lack of respect against the officiating crew on occasion of the game FC Bayern Munich - Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade, under Article 27.2.b) of the Euroleague Basketball Disciplinary Code.

The Board reaffirmed its commitment to continuing the successful journey it has built over the past 25 years. This progress has been grounded in unity and determination—values that remain as strong today as they were at the start. Over the years, Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and BKT EuroCup clubs have invested significant resources and relentless effort into delivering the best basketball experience for fans, elevating European club basketball to record levels of interest and commercial success.

The Board discussed the announced proposals for the creation of a new European league, viewing such a move as a threat to the long-standing traditions of European basketball. Such developments would risk fragmentation and confusion within the sport.

At the same time, the Board emphasized its openness to dialogue with any party genuinely interested in contributing to the continued growth of European basketball. However, it remains resolute in opposing any initiatives that undermine the core values, heritage, and fan base of European sports and risk leaving loyal fans behind.

Additionally, attendees of the Board meeting received updates and engaged in strategic discussions regarding the future structure of competitions and emerging commercial opportunities.

Ergin Ataman, head coach of Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens, has been sanctioned with a fine of €10,000 for actions that caused the abnormal interruption of a game on occasion of its home game against Alba Berlin under 27.2.a) of the Euroleague Basketball Disciplinary Code. The decision may be appealed before the Appeals Judge.

- Mr. Dimitris Giannakopoulos, the majority shareholder of Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens, has been sanctioned with a fine of €15,000 for statements on social media regarding the officiating performance in accordance with Article 24.2.c) of the Euroleague Basketball Disciplinary Code.
- Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens has been sanctioned with a fine of €7,500 for comments regarding the officiating performance published on the club official website, in accordance with Article 24.2.c) of the Euroleague Basketball Disciplinary Code.
- Mr. Kendrick Nunn, Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens player, has been sanctioned with a fine of €4,500 for a lack of respect towards the opposite team during the game between Olympiacos Piraeus and Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens, under Article 27.2.b) of the Euroleague Basketball Disciplinary Code.
