To commemorate this special occasion, a unique 25th Anniversary logo has been unveiled. The design maintains the iconic orange-colored ball with the 'e' of the EuroLeague logo proudly emblazoned on it, representing the essence of the EuroLeague brand while integrating shapes that form the number "25". This modern design reflects the EuroLeague's storied history and its bright future, with the disjointed shapes symbolizing the ongoing evolution of the league. The logo also hints at an infinity symbol (∞), representing the endless excitement it continues to deliver to millions of fans worldwide.

The anniversary celebrations officially tipped off with the release of a short film titled "Where’s the Party?" — a comedic tribute featuring 29 active and former players and coaches. This is the first time such a large group of EuroLeague legends have come together to reflect on some of the most iconic moments in the league's history. Set at a fictional anniversary party, the film humorously portrays the EuroLeague’s top figures trying to attend the celebration, highlighting both legends of the game and current players who are poised to shape the future of the league.

Fans will also play a pivotal role in the celebrations by participating in the selection of the 25th Anniversary All-Time Team. Through exclusive content—videos, graphics, and more—fans can relive some of the EuroLeague’s most iconic moments under the hashtags #EuroLeague25 and #ONLY25.

The celebration will extend to the games as well, with select teams donning throwback jerseys that commemorate some of their most significant moments. These special jerseys will be worn during specific rounds of the season, offering fans a nostalgic glimpse into the league’s storied past.

A Season-Long Tribute to the Past, Present, and Future

The jury for the 2024 Euroleague Basketball FanXP Playoffs is confirmed and will feature Stina Lundgren Högbom, Rohn Malhotra, Sree Varma, and Luis Vicente.

Eight businesses have made it through to the 2024 Euroleague Basketball FanXP Playoffs, so now it is time to announce the jury.

The panel will be made up of four incredibly successful individuals in the sports business industry, who will decide which four companies make it to SPORTBIZ EUROPE: Barcelona on October 10. The prize for the winning company is €10,000, which will be used to invest in implementing their business solutions inside the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and BKT EuroCup bubble.

During an event at the Euroleague Basketball offices on October 7, the eight businesses will be tasked with pitching their proposals in front of the judges. **Stina Lundgren Högbom** is currently Director of Sports Technology and Innovation at svexa, which optimizes training for individual athletes by using data. Having secured a PhD in biochemistry, sports science, and economics, she has a wealth of business experience. Her time as Program Manager of SPIN Accelerator Sweden saw her play a pivotal role in helping sports-tech startups achieve significant growth, particularly those companies that support and empower athletes. Högbom is also a Venture Partner at Anthropy Partners, LLC, an advisor to the KTH Center for Sports Engineering, and national team manager for the Swedish Jujutsu Federation.

“I'm super excited to be back at FanXP and looking forward to listening to and meeting startups at the forefront of the future of sports and fan experience,” she said.

Lundgren Högbom will be joined by **Rohn Malhotra**, Managing Director at SportsTechX and Investment Director at Match Ventures. A serial entrepreneur with over 15 years of experience as a founder and mentor to multiple startups, he currently operates in two roles: as the Founder and Managing Director of Berlin-based SportsTechX, the leading market intelligence company for all things related to sports and innovation; and also as an Investment Director at a leading European SportsTech VC Match Ventures. He regularly speaks at industry conferences, is a guest lecturer in various MBA programs, and also serves as both a mentor and judge at prominent startup accelerators and competitions.

“The Euroleague FanXP Challenge is known for showcasing some of the coolest tech in sports,” he commented. “Looking at this year's lineup of startups, it looks like it's going to be another impressive display of innovation.

The third member of the jury is **Sree Varma**, the Founder and Chairman of iSportConnect, Varma Properties Group and SEG3/Web3 Media Group. With Varma at the helm, iSportConnect has become the world’s largest private sport business network, working to build and enhance relationships across the world of sport. With more than 23,000 global members from the industry, iSportConnect keeps its vast community connected via a multitude of offerings, and it has offices in London, Amsterdam and Lucknow. He has been an advisor to the Euroleague FanXP Innovation Challenge for the last three years.

Rounding out the judges is **Luis Vicente**, who holds a number of roles. With over 30 years of experience in a plethora of management and development fields, particularly relating to growth and sports, one of his main focuses is relating to innovation and technology integration in sports. Vicente has previously worked at Manchester City Football Club, Valencia CF, FIFA, Eleven Sports, and more.

Backcourt violations have been added to the Instant Replay System (IRS). Henceforth, if the referees have called a backcourt violation on the team with possession of the ball, the call is reviewable by the referees in the last 2 minutes of Q4 and last 2 minutes of overtime. Coaches can challenge this call at any time during the game.

The other rule updates align the Euroleague Basketball rule book with FIBA rules concerning a jump ball violation and the defensive semicircle.

If there is a violation that occurs during a jump ball, it will no longer result in a throw-in, with the player inbounding the ball while straddling the center line and the team having 24 seconds on the shot clock. Going forward, if the violation occurred on the frontcourt of the opposite team, then the ball will be inbounded on the backcourt with 24 seconds on the shot clock. And if the violation occurred on the backcourt, the ball will be inbounded on the frontcourt with 14 seconds on the shot clock.

Regarding block/charge calls, a defensive player will now be considered to be outside the defensive semicircle (DSC) if his foot is elevated above the DSC line like shown below, whereas up until now he was considered to be inside in this specific case.

The Assembly of Syndicate Shareholders of Euroleague Commercial Assets (ECA) has approved the implementation of the Competitive Balance Standards (CBS), a new set of regulations that amplifies the scope of the current Financial Stability & Fair Play Regulations (FSFPR).

The Financial Stability & Fair Play Regulations were first deployed in the 2014-15 season with the objective of protecting the collective interests of the clubs from the financial risk of individual clubs by limiting the contribution of club shareholders and promoting business performance. The CBS will coexist with the already-active Financial Stability & Fair Play Regulations, like the overdue payables system or controls on the clubs' overall financial position, among others, in order to:

1\.       **Align stakeholders' objectives** by referencing minimum and maximum remuneration levels to the clubs' collective generated revenue, strengthening the commercial partnership between players and clubs.

2\.       **Promote sustainability and competitive balance** by establishing player expenditure ranges that are equal for all teams in the competition based on the clubs' collective generated revenue.

**3.       Prevent inappropriate** practices by monitoring each club’s compliance with pre-established levels prior to the registration of players each season.

4\.       **Grow transparency** among the participating teams.

The new Competitive Balance Standards have been developed over the last two seasons following a collaborative process with a committee of clubs and has been discussed and agreed to by the EuroLeague Players Association (ELPA). The CBS represents a natural evolution of the existing Financial Stability & Fair Play Regulations to meet the current realities of the clubs and league by providing equal remuneration levels for all clubs based on the average collective revenues of EuroLeague clubs, rather than each individual club's revenue. This concept builds on the pan-European ecosystem of the league, harmonizing the impact of the different taxation models around the continent by valuing all indicators on net amounts.

The updated FSFPR will introduce three common remuneration levels for all teams – Base, High and Low – that will be calculated using the clubs’ average defined revenues (LCDR: game day, commercial and others) generated over a two-season period. These levels will mark the minimum and maximum spend for each club on remunerations while allowing exceptions for certain players with the aim of attracting, developing and retaining the best talents. This is the first time that a mandatory minimum spend on players’ remuneration has been introduced within the FSFPR, guaranteeing that a minimum net of 32% of all collective revenues will be spent on EuroLeague athletes, thereby strengthening the partnership with the players whose contribution to revenue growth will directly impact their remuneration levels.

**Key Competitive Balance Standards (CBS) concepts:**

**Low Remuneration Level ‘LRL’** (32% of the average Licensed Clubs’ Defined Revenues (LCDR), calculated at fair-market value over a two-season period): The minimum net amount that any given club must spend on registered players' salaries. Associated clubs, meaning clubs not participating under a long-term license, will be allowed a reduction on the Low Remuneration Level.

**Base Remuneration Level ‘BRL’** (40% of the average Licensed Clubs´ defined revenues (LCDR)): The maximum net amount that all clubs may spend on all registered player salaries, excluding: Anchor Players, U23 Players, Extended-Tenure Players, Long-Term Injured Players and Medium-Range Exceptions.

**High Remuneration Level ‘HRL’** (60% of the average Licensed Clubs´ Defined Revenues (LCDR): The maximum net amount that any given club may spend on registered players' salaries, including Anchor Players, and excluding U23 Players, Extended-Tenure Players, Long-Term Injured Players and Medium-Range Exception.

**Competitive Balance Compensation ‘CBC’:** Any given club that spends above and beyond the set Base and/or High Remuneration Levels will be required to compensate all the other clubs that stay within the set limits.

The Competitive Balance Standards will have a transition period of one full season (2024-25) for the participating clubs to adapt to the new regulations, while measures will be progressively introduced over the following two seasons, reaching full implementation for the 2027-28 season.

Euroleague Basketball, on behalf of its clubs, thanks the ELPA for their collaboration in bringing this initiative to fruition, as it strongly believes it is a critical step towards a fully sustainable future, a greater protection of players from financial instability, and a partnership that aligns clubs, players and the league office under the common, overarching objective of growing the EuroLeague.

The negotiation process for the updated EFA was a collaborative effort, involving three key parties: Euroleague Basketball, ELPA, and the EuroLeague Clubs Commission. This tripartite negotiation ensured that the interests and perspectives of all parties were considered, leading to a well-rounded and inclusive agreement.

The revised EFA addresses several critical areas, including:

• Remuneration: Ensuring fair and competitive compensation for all players.

• Image, Commercial, and Promotional Activities: Enhancing opportunities for players and clubs to engage in promotional activities while protecting their individual and collective rights.

• Practice Sessions: Establishing guidelines to optimize practice schedules and workloads.

• Player Health and Performance: Upgrading training and medical facilities standards.

• Travel Conditions: Improving travel arrangements to ensure comfort and efficiency, reducing travel-related stress and fatigue for players and staff.

• Joint working group: Parties have committed to analyze and develop a EuroLeague-wide player pension plan proposal, to support the Players’ transition from their playing career to their next step in life.

The renewed EFA sets a compulsory minimum standard for all participating teams, players, and the league. Its contents and its implementation through the Standard Player Contract (SPC) will operate to the extent that they are not contrary to the mandatory laws and regulations of the countries of the participating Clubs.

Summer ended early for the Euroleague Basketball family of referees with the 33rd Clinic for Euroleague Basketball Officials last weekend. The four-day-long event, which began on August 29, saw the men and women who will oversee the games this season in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and the BKT EuroCup meet for physicals, rules discussions and analyses, breakout sessions and much more in Zagreb, Croatia.

Some 68 referees were on hand for the clinic, including four newcomers: Manuel Attard of Italy, Stefan Calic of Serbia, Sergio Manuel of Spain and Christian Theis of Germany. This marked the second such clinic under the guidance of Daniel Hierrezuelo as Euroleague Basketball Director of Officiating.

“The annual clinic is essential for maintaining the high standards we expect at Euroleague Basketball. It’s not just about the rules but about sharing knowledge and experiences, fostering teamwork, preparing mentally and physically, and ultimately delivering the best officiating for the league,” Hierrezuelo stated.

The list of experts invited to lecture at the clinic featured Euroleague Basketball President Dejan Bodiroga, former Euroleague Basketball Senior Director of Officiating Mr. Costas Rigas, Spanish national team head coach Sergio Scariolo, Euroleague Head Coaches Board President and former EuroLeague champion Dimitris Itoudis, Euroleague Head Coaches Board Executive Director Goran Sasic, ELPA Head of Player Relations Walter Jeklin, sports psychologist Mar Rovira, and physical trainer Gianluca Mazzoncini.

There were lectures on IRS reviews and rule changes for the coming season. The referees also met in smaller groups to dive deeper into video analysis, proper mechanics on the court, injury prevention, and self-improvement, among other topics. Each official also underwent eye exams, fitness checkups and rules tests. And by the end of the clinic, they were all better prepared for the exciting season that awaits!
