U18 Casademont Zaragoza grabbed its first victory at the Euroleague Basketball Adidas Next Generation Tournament Varese by knocking off U18 AX Armani Exchange Milan 68-45 to finish Group B action with a 1-2 record. Zaragoza used an 18-4 run spanning the first two quarters to take control of the game. Aday Mara paced the winners with 14 points and 10 rebounds while Pavle Stosic had 12 points and 10 rebounds, Javier Fernandez scored 11 points and Manuel Zapater added 10 points. Milan made just 3-of-30 three-pointers (10.0%) in falling to 1-2 in the group. Lionel Abega led the team in scoring with 11 points and Samuele Miccoli added 10 points.
Zaragoza captures first win
Miccoli hit the first basket of the game for Milan and Miguel Flores answered with a three-pointer for Zaragoza. Abega picked up four points and the Italian side led 5-8 and it was 9-12 midway through the quarter. Mara tallied four points for Zaragoza in an 8-3 finish to the first quarter and 17-15 advantage after 10 minutes. Zaragoza had a big start to the second quarter with Alejandro Moreno hitting a triple and Pavle Stosic picking up five points in a 10-1 run to lead 27-16. And the margin was 36-20 at halftime.
Zaragoza picked up the first four points of the second half to extend the lead to 20 points - 40-20. Milan punched back with the next six points but Zaragoza continued with the momentum and Fernandez had seven points in building a 52-31 lead and it was 56-33 after 30 minutes. Little changed in the final frame with Mara picking up four points as the advantage was 66-39 and any comeback attempt was done for good.
