Anadolu Efes Istanbul announced on Sunday that Luca Banchi would not remain with the club as its head coach. 

Banchi, 60, joined Efes in January and helped Efes finish the regular season on an 8-0 tear to climb into sixth place. Efes then took Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens the distance in a thrilling five-game playoff series before bowing out. 

Efes was Banchi's second coaching stop last season after he opened the season with Virtus Segafredo Bologna. He resigned his position there after a 2-10 start.

Banchi has coached five different clubs in the EuroLeague. He debuted with Montepaschi Siena of his native Italy in 2012 and has since spent time with EA7 Emporio Armani Milan, Brose Bamberg and Virtus, which he joined just before the start of the 2023-24 season. Banchi guided Virtus to the Play-In Showdown in his lone full season with the club.

He began his EuroLeague career as an assistant coach with Montepaschi Siena between 2006 and 2012. Banchi helped it reach the Final Four in both 2008 in Madrid and 2011 in Barcelona. He later led Milan to the club's first EuroLeague Playoff appearance this century in 2014. Banchi also coached two seasons in the EuroCup, first with Turin of Italy in 2017-18 and then with Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar of Russia in 2019-20.

His trophy case includes winning the FIBA Intercontinental Cup with Lokomotiv in 2019 and Italian League championships with Milan in 2013 and 2014 as well as the Italian Cup in the first of those seasons. Banchi, who has also coached clubs in Greece and France and spent a season as an assistant coach in the G League. He also coached the Latvian national team, with which he was named the Best Coach of the 2023 Basketball World Cup after leading Latvia to an unexpected fifth-place finish.

U-BT Cluj-Napoca is the Romanian League champion

U-BT Ckuj-Napoca is once again the Romanian League champion! Cluj won its 10th Romanian League title, winning its fifth consecutive crown after previously lifting the trophy in 1992, 1993, 1996, 2011 and 2017. It all came down to a do-or-die Game 5 in which Cluj edged CSM CSU Oradea 67-68 on the road to successfully defend the title. Zavier Simpson scored the go-ahead layup with 26 seconds left and led the way with 26 points. D.J. Seeley added 10 for Cluj, that won the best-of-five series 2-3. Simpson was chosen as the Romanian finals MVP.

Simpson had 25 points to lead Cluj to an 82-89 road win in Game 1. Seeley added 20 while DeShawn Stephens had 16. Oradea took Game 2 at home, 80-68, and stole a 68-74 road victory in Game 1 to get a 2-1 lead in the series. In a do-or-die situation, Cluj defeated Oradea 92-83 at home behind 21 points from Sasu Salin. Zach Hankins added 19, Patrick Richard had 17 while Todor Somecescu got 10 for Cluj, which took the series to make-or-break Game 5 and won it to walk away with another Romanian League trophy!

Panathinaikos extends Jerian Grant through 2028

Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens and guard Jerian Grant have reached a new agreement to keep working together until the end of the 2027-28 season, the club announced Saturday. 

Grant (1.96 meters, 32 years old) averaged 8.6 points on 43.0% three-pointers, 3.2 assists and a PIR of 10.6 in 41 EuroLeague games last season, helping Panathinaikos reach the Final Four and win the Greek Cup title. Last season, Grant helped the Greens to win the EuroLeague title, the club's seventh crowd and first in 13 years. He had an all-around performance in the Championship Game against Real Madrid, getting 11 points, six rebounds, five assists, two steals and a PIR of 17. Grant also won the Greek League title with the Greens in 2024.

He joined Panathinaikos from Turk Telekom Ankara, which he guided to the BKT EuroCup Final in 2023. Across 22 games in the competition with Turk Telekom, the American guard averaged 14.9 points, 3.2 rebounds, 6.1 assists, 1.3 steals and an 18.7 PIR to earn EuroCup MVP and All-EuroCup First Team honors. A member of a famed basketball family in which his father, uncle and two of his brothers played (and still play) professionally, Jerian played five seasons in the NBA with the New York Knicks, the Chicago Bulls, the Washington Wizards and the Orlando Magic. He spent time in the G League with the Windy City Bulls and the Capital City Go-Go, too. He went on to play for Promitheas Patras in Greece and EA7 Emporio Armani Milan in Italy before joining Turk Telekom.

Benitez (1.92 meters, 24 years old) brings with him five seasons of BKT EuroCup experience with [Cosea JL Bourg-en-Bresse](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/teams/cosea-jl-bourg-en-bresse/bou/), including a run to the 2024 EuroCup Finals. Last season he averaged 8.8 points, 5.3 assists and 1.2 steals over 17 EuroCup appearances. He was tied for fifth in the competition in assists.

Best of Hugo Benitez: 2024-25

Benitez enters the 2025-26 season – his first outside of his native France – tied for 30th on the all-time EuroCup charts with 288 career assists. He has played on the French national team at both the junior and senior levels.

Tsalmpouris (2.16 meters, 28 years old) averaged 8.1 points on 36.7% three-point shooting and 2.9 rebounds in 27 Greek League games last season, his first with the club. He started his career with SFR Perikos Atheiaos before playing college basketball for Iowa State University in the United States.

Tsalmpouris has since suited up for AEK Athens, Kolossos Rhodes, Larissa and Apollon Patras in Greece, as well as for Real Betis Sevilla and Surne Bilbao Basket of Spain. He helped AEK win the Intercontinental Cup in 2019 and has been a member of the Greek national team.

"I am very happy to continue at Panionios. I want to believe that we will have a remarkable year, first of all with good health, building a good team that will enable us to take the next step and have a better season than last year. I am excited to be back on the court as a Panionios player and with a European competition now, which is important for every player," Tsalmpouris said.

"Coach Pavicevic played a decisive role in my decision to remain in the team. I want to be where they want me. I had a great time at Panionios, I have found an environment that is healthy and professional and I believe that we will constantly improve at all levels."

The big man is expected to debut in the BKT EuroCup this season

Age is just a number. A decades-old mantra that has been used more and more in the world of professional sports, with athletes prolonging their prime into the latter stages of their careers, got its Turkish Airlines EuroLeague version in Errick McCollum. The 37-year-old guard became one of the feel-good stories of the entire season, and rightfully so.

Tribute to the Champs: Errick McCollum

Age is just a number. A decades-old mantra that has been used more and more in the world of professional sports, with athletes prolonging their prime into the latter stages of their careers, got its Turkish Airlines EuroLeague version in [Errick McCollum](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/errick-mccollum/005216/). The 37-year-old guard became one of the feel-good stories of the entire season, and rightfully so.

McCollum, a former EuroCup MVP and champion, was widely known for his scoring abilities but he had been away from the EuroLeague for almost four years. In mid-January, however, he joined a Fenerbahce side in the midst of an injury crisis. Little did we know that McCollum, who came to fill the holes caused by injuries, would become a difference-maker and one of the key factors in Fenerbahce’s climb to the EuroLeague throne.

It took the veteran guard a couple of games to adjust, but then in nine appearances between Rounds 23 and 31, he averaged 15.4 points on 45.9% three-point shooting. McCollum got injured the next round but he returned in time for the playoffs to help Fenerbahce sweep Paris Basketball. In Abu Dhabi, he emerged once again as one of the team’s heroes at the Final Four, the first time he had reached European basketball's showpiece event.

In the semifinals against Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens, McCollum scored all 13 of his points in the last 15 minutes of an 82-76 win. He finished the game with a +12, the biggest plus-minus among all Fenerbahce players that night. He went on to score 3 points in the championship game, but with a +8 in the plus-minus section, playing a key part in Fenerbahce’s triumph in Abu Dhabi.

It was a perfect ending to this perfect marriage between McCollum and Fenerbahce, which ended in the dream scenario of becoming the 2024-25 EuroLeague champion.

Gkikas (1.86 meters, 34 years old) comes off an outstanding first campaign with Panionios in which he led the Greek League in assists with 7.9 per game. He also averaged 11.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.7 steals over 34 games. Gkikas started his career with Filathilikos and has also played for Aris Midea Thessaloniki, AE Nea Kifisia Dimoulas Athens, AEK Athens and Promitheas Patras in Greece as well as for Ventspils of Latvia.

He made his BKT EuroCup debut in his second stint with Promitheas and averaged 5.0 points and 3.2 assists in 30 games during the 2021-22 and 2022-23 campaigns. Gkikas helped Promitheas reach the 2019 Greek League finals and the 2023 EuroCup quarterfinals. He also helped AEK reach the BCL championship game in 2020. Gkikas has been a member of the Greek national team, too.

"This is a new effort and I am very happy to participate in it. We must all, each in his own role, rally around this new beginning because a particularly demanding year awaits us," Gkikas said. "I am optimistic, however, that through hard work, effort, dedication to our goal and unity, we will manage to succeed."

Sow (2.06 meters, 26 years old) brings previous EuroCup experience with him after averaging 7.5 points and 4.8 rebounds in 11 games with Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana during the 2023-24 campaign, though his season came to a premature end with a knee injury. Last season Sow returned to action with Strasbourg in January and averaged 7.4 points and 3.6 rebounds in 14 games.

“Amadou is entering his fourth pro season and already has experience in the EuroCup,” said head coach Rodrigo Pastore. “He’s a strong rebounder and brings versatility on both ends of the floor. After recovering well from a knee injury, he’s ready to take the next step with us.”

After playing college basketball at the University of California at Santa Barbara, the native of Mali began his professional career with ADA Blois in the French top division in 2022.

Kozys (2.01 meters, 26 years old) arrives from Nedainiu Nevezis-Optibet, where he played under recently signed head coach Gediminas Petrauskas. He averaged 8.9 points and 5.0 rebounds in 34 Lithuanian League games last season.

Kozys started his career with Kretinga and has played for fellow Lithuanian teams Naglis Palangos, Prienu, Zalgiris Kaunas's second team, Jonavos and Wolves Vilnius, where he made his BKT EuroCup debut during the 2023-24 season. Kozys averaged 2.3 points in 15 EuroCup games with Wolves. He briefly played for Neptunas's second team, too.

"One of the club's goals for the upcoming season is to have as many energetic players as possible," Neptunas director Martynas Mazeika said. "Vitalijus is a strong player. We want to assemble a dedicated team that fights for each ball and Vitalijus fits that definition. He also adapts well to the players around him and he will join forces with Coach Petrauskas. And one of the most important things: Vitalijus is a former Neptunas player from our basketball school."

He will play under [Marko Barac, who was named as Bahcesehir's new head coach](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/news/bahcesehir-names-marko-barac-as-dejan-radonjics-replacement/) on Thursday.

Flynn (1.85 meters, 27 years old) played four times for the Charlotte Hornets last season, averaging 4.0 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists. He also suited up for the Austin Spurs in the G League in 2024-25, posting 22.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.5 steals in 26 appearances.

The American point guard, who was a first-round pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, will play in Europe for the first time next season. He spent the first three and a half years of his career with the Toronto Raptors, the team which drafted him, before also playing for the New York Knicks and Detroit Pistons in the 2023-24 campaign. Of Flynn's 223 NBA appearances, 181 came with the Raptors.

Thanks to his performances with Austin in the G League last season, Flynn was named to the All-NBA G League First Team. With the Raptors 905, Toronto's G League affiliate, he was selected to the All-NBA G League Second Team and NBA G League All-Rookie Team, both in 2020-21.

In a packed-to-the-rafters Belgrade Arena, Partizan finished off Buducnost for a 3-1 series win to celebrate its record eighth league title.

Partizan took the lead for good in the second quarter behind Sterling Brown and Brendon Davies. The hosts were 49-44 ahead at halftime, then pulled away to a double-digit lead by opening the third quarter with an 8-0 run, with Davies and Iffe Lundberg enjoying starring roles. Yogi Ferrell kept Buducnost’s hopes alive as the visitors cut the margin to single digits on several occasions.

However, Carlik and Tyrique Jones pushed the margin to 81-62 in fourth as Partizan cruised to the title. Davies and Brown led Partizan with 18 points apiece, Carlik Jones had 17 points and 9 assists, while Lundberg and Isaac Bonga each scored 13. Ferrell netted 23 points for Buducnost.

The ABA League Finals MVP was Tyrique Jones thanks to his performances in an 89-94 Partizan road win in Game 1 (24 points, 10 rebounds) and an 83-67 win in Game 3 (12 points, 10 rebounds).

The season does not end here for Partizan, however, as it moves on to play the Serbian League playoffs, where it faces FMP Zeleznik in the semifinals. The other Serbian League semifinal will feature Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade and Spartak Subotica.

After five years of college basketball at UNC Asheville, Thorpe made his professional debut with Finnish side Pyrinto in 2022 and he averaged 12.7 points, 5.1 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 1.7 steals in 34 domestic league games. Then came a move to Siauliai in Lithuania, posting 13.7 points, 3.4 rebounds, 6.3 assists and 1.0 steal in 31 Lithuanian League games in 2023-24, which was his final stop before joining Juventus.

Only 36, Barac will look to build on the work done by Radonjic, who guided Bahcesehir to first place in Group A with a 14-4 mark on the club's return to the EuroCup. The Turkish side then advanced past Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana in the quarterfinals before losing 2-1 to Dreamland Gran Canaria in the semifinals.

Barac, who was an assistant coach for the Serbian national team at youth level between 2012 and 2014, first took charge of a club side in the 2013-14 campaign with We're Basket Ortona. He then became an assistant at Czarni Slupsk (2014-15) before being the head coach at KK Torlak (2016-18) and Mladost Zemun (2018-19). After returning to being an assistant with Igokea (2019-22), he was named as the Mega head coach, a role he held between 2022 until this summer.

Anadolu Efes Istanbul and guard PJ Dozier have signed a contract extension that will keep them together through the end of the 2026-27 season, the club announced Wednesday.

Efes extends versatile guard PJ Dozier

[Anadolu Efes Istanbul](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/anadolu-efes-istanbul/roster/ist/?season=2024-25) and guard [PJ Dozier](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/perry-dozier-jr/012742/) have signed a contract extension that will keep them together through the end of the 2026-27 season, the club announced Wednesday.

Dozier (1.98 meters, 28 years old) averaged 8.3 points on 51.4% three-point shooting and 2.9 assists in 18 EuroLeague games this season as he helped the team rally to reach the EuroLeague Playoffs.

He joined Efes after making his EuroLeague debut with [Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/partizan-mozzart-bet-belgrade/roster/par/) in the 2023-24 campaign. Dozier averaged 9.2 points, 3.1 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.3 steals with Partizan, starting in 22 of the 33 games he played. 

One of his best games with Partizan came [against Efes in Istanbul](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/news/euroleague-live-blog-anadolu-efes-sk-vs-kk-partizan/), when he posted 21 points on 4-for-7 three-point shooting, 5 assists and 3 steals. Dozier started the 2024-25 season with the Minnesota Timberwolves in the NBA and made nine appearances in limited minutes.

After graduating from the University of South Carolina, Dozier started his professional career with the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2017. He later played for the Boston Celtics, Denver Nuggets and Sacramento Kings. Over seven seasons, Dozier racked up 145 NBA appearances despite injury problems, including an ACL injury suffered in December 2021. 

Well-know as a defensive specialist, Dozier has career averages of 5.4 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists in the NBA. During his career, he also played for Oklahoma City Blue, Maine Red Claws, Windy City Bulls and Iowa Wolves in the G League.
