On Thursday night, Umana Reyer Venice downed the first-place and a playoff-bound Valencia Basket 81-74. The final score might not reveal how impressive of a Reyer's performance it was, especially in the first half.

Reyer kept victories coming even against 11-win Valencia

[Umana Reyer Venice](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/teams/umana-reyer-venice/vnc/) continued its climb up the standings, but its latest win - its first in 2025 - might be the most impressive of them all.

On Thursday night, [Reyer downed first-place and playoff-bound Valencia Basket 81-74](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/news/reyer-downs-valencia-climbs-to-winning-record/). The final score might not reveal how impressive of a performance it was, especially in the first half, before Valencia attempted a rally while Reyer slowed down the tempo, making sure Valencia could not go on a big run.

"Congrats to our players for an amazing effort", Reyer coach [Neven Spahija](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/teams/umana-reyer-venice/vnc/spahija-neven/?season=U2024) praised his players. "We cannot ask for more than this."

Reyer's first half was probably a blueprint of how Spahija would like his team to play every time.

Mfiondu Kebengele scored 9 of his 15 points in the first quarter against Valencia Basket.

Kabengele gave Reyer first-quarter spark.

Up 52-30 after two quarters, Reyer outscored the team with the best record in all of the BKT EuroCup 31-12 in the second quarter. Before halftime, Reyer's defense forced 12 turnovers and held Valencia to 41.6% shooting on two-pointers and 33.3% on three-pointers.

"They played better than us, especially in the first half, with more energy and a better defense", Valencia head coach [Pedro Martinez](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/teams/valencia-basket/pam/martinez-pedro/?season=U2024) admitted to the EuroLeague TV cameras after the loss.

Reyer grabbed most of the loose balls, and protected the glass by allowing 5 offensive rebounds on 18 opportunities.

"We played a great game, solid from the first minute to the end", said shooting guard [Davide Moretti](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/davide-moretti/005404/), who was one of two main facilitators of all the good things Reyer did in the opening two quarters.

The first one was [Mfiondu Kabengele](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/mfiondu-kabengele/012796/), who opened the game by making all 3 of his two-point shots, and his only three-point attempts, all in the first quarter, to jump-start Reyer's offense. Then it was Moretti's turn in the second quarter. His back-to-back threes opened the first double-digit lead of the game, 31-21, and sparked a 14-1 run that had Reyer pull away and never look back.

And while Kabengele is a usual suspect when it comes to production, for Moretti this was his best game of the season as he netted 15 points, 11 of which came in the second quarter, as he shot 4-of-6 from downtown.

"We had a lot of difficulties in the last period, but the last two games we showed character and that's how we want to be the rest of the season", Moretti said, referring to a big number of injuries that have hit Reyer in the first part of the season.

But the team shook that off, and has now won five of its last six games, all after starting the season with a 2-5 record.

"We have a great team, full of talented guys", Moretti added. "We just got to stay focused, keep going, keep working together, and stay strong mentally."

That mentality will certainly be tested the rest of the regular season, as Reyer is in a dogfight for a spot in the playoffs. Valencia has all but locked up the first place, but Reyer is one of the teams fighting for the remaining five spots.

The last five rounds of the regular season, Reyer will have three home games, including those against direct playoff-chasing rivals U-BT Cluj Napoca and Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem, while two remaining road games take Reyer to Hamburg next week, and then to Ankara to face Turk Telekom in the penultimate round.

On a winning run while sporting a healthier roster full of players capable of step up, like Moretti did on this night, Reyer is in a great position to secure playing postseason basketball once again.

Crvena Zvezda showing new-found steel to keep marching on

The Serbian side’s form this season is in stark contrast to what it was delivering last term, when it finished 16th with an unimpressive 11-23 record. With 15 games to go in the current campaign, Zvezda has every chance of getting into the playoff picture after its third win in a row, as [Ioannis Sfairopoulos](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/crvena-zvezda-meridianbet-belgrade/red/sfairopoulos-ioannis/)’s men look forward to playing the next six games in its hometown.

Following a tripleheader with [Paris Basketball](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/paris-basketball/prs/), [Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/fenerbahce-beko-istanbul/ulk/) and [AS Monaco](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/as-monaco/mco/) at Belgrade Arena, Zvezda heads “away’ across town to Aleksandar Nikolic Hall to face [Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/maccabi-playtika-tel-aviv/tel/), which has been playing is home games in the Serbian capital since the beginning of last season.

Then comes the “visit” to [Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/partizan-mozzart-bet-belgrade/par/) at the venue Zvezda shares with its archrival, where Partizan will have home-court advantage this time. A home matchup with visiting [LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/ldlc-asvel-villeurbanne/asv/) completes the streak, presenting Zvezda an opportunity to gain ground in the club’s quest to make the postseason, which would be a major turn in fortunes on the biggest stage.

Apart from center [Joel Bolomboy](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/joel-bolomboy/009035/) and guard [Isaiah Canaan](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/isaiah-canaan/010612/), who led Zvezda’s charge in Baskonia, the Spanish club’s former players [Rokas Giedraitis](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/rokas-giedraitis/006436/) and [Codi Miller-McIntyre](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/codi-miller-mcintyre/009048/) were also instrumental in Thursday night’s success at Buesa Arena. Giedraitis sank 12 points while Miller-McIntyre posted 9 points and 3 assists, of which two resulted in spectacular slam dunks for player of the game Bolomboy. 

In no small part thanks to Miller-McIntyre’s hard work, with the versatile playmaker also recording 2 steals, Zvezda was able to weather the storm against Baskonia as the hosts had fought back from a 17-point second-half deficit before Canaan, who finished on 15 points, forced the final twist with a pair of clutch layups.

It was also an emotional night for Miller-McIntyre, who stressed that he had the fondest memories of playing in Vitoria-Gasteiz before he joined Zvezda during the offseason.  

“It’s amazing. Vitoria is a special place for me and I was happy to see my old teammates and the fans,” the 30-year-old told Serbia’s Sport Klub television after the rip-roaring contest. “We had ups and downs, but we stayed focused for most of the 40 minutes They’re a great team with great scorers bur we did a good job in the end.”

Staying focused and keeping the composure under pressure has been a big factor in Zvezda’s run this term, as those traits were missing last season when the Serbian team kept throwing away leads in the home stretch – much to the frustration of its fans.

The win over Baskonia was almost a carbon copy of the one against Barcelona as Zvezda held firm in a dramatic finale, and Coach Sfairopoulos hailed his team for holding its nerve when the chips were down.

“When Baskonia made some tough shots and came back in the last five minutes, we showed our character. We didn’t panic and we made some good decisions, offensively and defensively,” the Greek tactician told the post-game press conference.

“We did a great job on [Markus Howard](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/markus-howard/011948/) as he scored zero points in the first half and made only 2 of 10 shots from downtown. That was important because he is a player who can score 20 points in three or four minutes.”

Sharpshooter Howard was limited to just 10 points as Baskonia finished on 6 of 28 from deep after going 0 of 15 in the first half, a testament to Zvezda’s ironclad defense which has been the pillar of the team’s impressive recent form.

Sfairopoulos will hope his men can keep up the good work as Zvezda aims to make the most of the upcoming run of games in Belgrade, in its bid to keep firing on all cylinders.

LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne guard Nando De Colo added another record to his impressive career resume, becoming the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague all-time leader in free throws made on Thursday night.

In ASVEL's 66-75 home loss against EA7 Emporio Armani Milan, De Colo made 8 free throws on as many attempts, getting his career count to 1,135, passing the previous all-time leader Vassilis Spanoulis who was sitting atop of the chart with 1,131 free throws made. The next best player on the all-time list is the reigning MVP Mike James of AS Monaco with 1,069.

De Colo accomplished this feat in his 312th career game, and now he is both the man with the most free throws made, and the best free-throw shooting percentage (93.0%) in EuroLeague this century.

De Colo, the three-time EuroLeague champ, is also the all-time leader in PIR with 5,256 index rating points, and ranks second all-time in scoring with 4,673 points.

De Colo is in fifth place all-time in steals (351), sixth all-time in two-point shots made (1,046), 10th all-time in assists (1,136), and 12th all-time with 482 career three-pointers made.

The 37-year old guard keeps re-writing EuroLeague history books.

Bolomboy, who had missed 11 games through injury before he returned to action in mid-December, stepped up in Zvezda’s hour of need as he kept the Serbian team firmly on course to reach the postseason.

Having been dominated by Baskonia counterpart [Donta Hall](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/donta-hall/011196/) early on, Bolomboy turned the table on his rival and dismantled the home team with a barrage of slam dunks and some intelligent plays at both ends of the court, ensuring Zvezda held its own in the paint.

In his postgame comments, Bolomboy was relieved that Zvezda came out on top after the visitors nearly spilled a 15-point lead in the second half and trailed 73-71 in the home stretch, before [Isaiah Canaan](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/isaiah-canaan/010612/) forced the final twist.  

“These are the games that matter the most because had we lost it, it would have been a different story,” Bolomboy said in a courtside postgame interview. “We’ve got to stay focused and execute better offensively when we’ve got a big lead.

“They have the crowd behind them and really good players who can score and thrive in game-time situations when the it’s on the line, so I am glad we walked away with the win.”

Canaan endured a torrid shooting night as he sank only 1 of 8 from deep but came up big when the chips were down, silencing the home fans with a pair of majestic layups which forced Baskonia into submission.

“I just tried to take what they give me,” Canaan pointed out. “Clearly I couldn’t make a three tonight, but I was fortunate to get the ball on the rim \[on those last two plays\]. Every game matters for us and as long as we continue to stay together and keep fighting, we can play with the best of them.” 

Zvezda head coach [Ioannis Sfairopoulos](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/crvena-zvezda-meridianbet-belgrade/red/sfairopoulos-ioannis/?season=E2024) was aware a Baskonia fightback was imminent after the hosts trailed 28-42 at halftime, having shot 0 of 15 from long range in the opening two quarters. Still, the Greek tactician was delighted to see his team weather the storm after the hosts had turned the game around in the fourth.

“We expected Baskonia to react after falling behind,” he said. “We were still in control early in the second half but then they made some tough shots and got back into the game. In the end, we won the game thanks to good decisions at both ends of the court.”

“We want to take it one game at a time and not think too far ahead. We want to learn from our mistakes from the past and not make them again,” Sfairopoulos added, as Zvezda keeps showing the kind of grit and character missing last season when the Serbian side fell woefully short of getting into the postseason picture.

“It was very tight and we fought until the end,” Laso said with a wry smile on his face. “We played with heart and were aggressive in the second half, but in the first we couldn’t make a shot. We have to decide which one of those two teams we want to be.”

Hapoel used a dominant first-half performance in collecting [a 64-87 victory at Gran Canaria](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/news/hapoel-cruises-past-gran-canaria-64-87-thanks-to-big-first-half/) to improve to 8-5 in the group - just one win behind Gran Canaria with the tiebreak advantage thanks to two wins. 

Hapoel took the first half 25-51 thanks to shooting a blistering 82.6% on two-pointers - a result which also was Gran Canaria’s worst-ever halftime deficit, topping the club’s 49-24 first half against ALBA Berlin during the 2015-16 season.

"Our performance in the first half was really dominant at both ends. Defensively we were able to keep them really low and we were scoring 82% on twos and in general, we had a good flow to the game. We tried to follow the game plan and try to take advantage of their weaknesses,” Hapoel coach [Dimitris Itoudis](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/teams/hapoel-shlomo-tel-aviv/hta/itoudis-dimitris/?season=U2024) said. 

"This is a team that has a good half-court offense but they get a lot in their open court. The fact that we did not allow easy points gave us a boost. In the second half, we had our problems. It was evident they were trying to come back. But overall, we were good in this road game.”

Tel Aviv came into the game ranked second in index rating (105.6) and third in scoring (89.0 ppg) as well as second in assists (21.3) and first in two-point shooting (62.3%). The road team was close in all those stats against Gran Canaria: 113 PIR, 87 points, 19 assists and 67.6% on two-pointers.

That fact was impressive considering Gran Canaria ranked second defensively in PIR (73.4) and scoring (73.1 ppg) as well as first in fewest assists (15.0) and lowest two-point shooting (50.5%). 

But Hapoel’s defensive stance was a welcome sight, considering the team had given up 104 and 101 points in its last two games. The team came into the game ranked sixth in defensive scoring at 81.4 ppg. 

Itoudis said the game provided numerous good points as the team builds toward the title contender it hopes to be. He liked the fact that his players remained locked in throughout. One player he singled out was [Antonio Blakeney](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/antonio-blakeney/013402/). 

After scoring 27 points [against Besiktas Fibabanka Istanbul](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/news/hapoel-goes-to-ot-to-beat-besiktas-109-101/), Blakeney did not enter the game until there were 9 minutes remaining. He proceeded to pour in 13 points to go with 4 rebounds.

Jerusalem's Coach Alon warned his team: 'This can never happen again'

[Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/teams/hapoel-jerusalem/roster/jer/?season=2024-25) has big aspirations this season but head coach [Yonatan Alon](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/teams/hapoel-bank-yahav-jerusalem/jer/alon-yonatan/?season=U2024) warned his team that those hopes can be forgotten if it plays another game like it did against [Aris Midea Thessaloniki](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/teams/aris-thessaloniki/roster/ari/?season=2024-25). 

Jerusalem needed to rally from 15 points down in the third quarter to grab [a 90-85 victory](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/news/jerusalem-fights-back-to-down-aris-90-85-and-snap-skid/) over an Aris team that is nearly eliminated from the playoffs. 

"I am happy about the win, but if Hapoel Jerusalem wants to go somewhere this season, everybody needs to take a good look in the mirror and it can never happen again," the Jerusalem coach said after the game. "We are better than this and we should perform better than this. We won but we need to learn from this."

Jerusalem’s defense - ranked fourth in the EuroCup - allowed 71 points through three quarters and finally shut down the [worst offense in the league](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/stats/key-stats-teams/?size=1000&misc=&seasonCode=U2024&category=Score&seasonMode=Single&sortDirection=descending&aggregate=perGame) in the final frame for a 23-14 score. 

"We shouldn’t start games like this. We have shown that we can start games better. I am happy that we managed to get over it, but let’s not make it a habit," Alon added.

One of the main reasons Jerusalem was able to come back was another outstanding performance from MVP candidate [Jared Harper](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/jared-harper/011970/). The superstar guard scored 29 points on 5-of-8 shooting and 16-of-17 free throws to go with 2 rebounds, 5 assists and 10 fouls drawn for a performance index rating of 38. 

"In the first couple quarters, we didn’t play as well and we knew that. We knew that we could play a lot better as a team both offensively and defensively," Harper said. "Being able to get back into the game and being able to stay together as a team ultimately helped us in the end. That is a big win for us."

Jerusalem didn’t shoot the ball poorly, making 50.0% on two-pointers and 42.1% on three-pointers while also making 36 of 49 free throws (73.5%). But the main issue for the home side was ball-handling. The Israelis committed 20 turnovers. Harper believes the final stat is one of the biggest for his team’s hopes for the season.

"We know that every game is not going to be our best game. We want to control what we can control. I think we can control our turnovers. I think we can control our effort and our energy and how we play defense. As long as we can control those things, I think we will be in a good position to win. The offense will come eventually," he said.

Ever since [Zach LeDay](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/zach-leday/008987/) inspired [EA7 Emporio Armani Milan](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/ea7-emporio-armani-milan/mil/) to a [stunning win at FC Barcelona](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/news/milan-surprises-barcelona-at-palau-blaugrana-81-94/) in Round 15, his downturn in performances coincided with the Italian team losing three straight in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague. But in Round 19, LeDay enjoyed a key role – particularly late – as Milan got back on track with [a 66-75 victory at LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/news/mirotic-leday-help-milan-snap-losing-streak-with-win-at-asvel-66-75/).

With [Theo Maledon](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/theo-maledon/007027/) having reduced Milan’s lead to four points, 60-64, with 2:10 minutes to go, it seemed as though the game could go either way. Yet, LeDay did not leave any doubt by knocking down back-to-back three-pointers in quick succession to swell the lead to 60-70 – the first time it had gone to double digits all night – and effectively put the win on ice.

Now in his sixth season in the EuroLeague, LeDay has earned a reputation for his incredible consistency. That was put to the test in the last few games, with LeDay netting 6, 14 and 3 points in his last three games, respectively, in defeats to Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens ([103-74](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/news/nunns-39-points-leads-panathinaikos-past-milan-103-74/)), FC Bayern Munich ([78-79](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/news/bayern-grabs-long-awaited-road-win-at-milan-78-79/)) and Olympiacos Piraeus ([83-84](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/news/olympiacos-edges-milan-in-thriller-83-84/)). Those 14 points would typically be a decent number, but they were the joint second fewest he had netted since Round 7.

What’s more, in Milan’s loss against Olympiacos, LeDay was 1 for 5 from the field and didn’t attempt a single free throw. As such, his final numbers against ASVEL – 17 points on 4-of-6 two-pointers, 2-of-5 three-pointers and 3-of-4 free throws – were a marked improvement.

“I made a big mistake before the last game; I tried to let the game come to me, I didn’t just kill what was in front of me,” LeDay told EuroLeague TV after the game. “So I wanted to show that I learned a lesson.”

Tiredness and knocks start to take their toll on players around this time of year, but LeDay is clear minded in what his approach needs to be, particularly at LDLC Arena on Thursday night.

“There’s a point in time where people talk about hitting the wall, but sh\*t, you’ve just got to run through that mother\*\*\*\*er,” he said. “Just do what you got to do, you know what I mean? I wanted to be there for my team and lock in and really focus on the little things today.”

Nick Calathes made his AS Monaco debut against ALBA Berlin on Thursday in Round 19 of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and everyone could see what head coach Vassilis Spanoulis expects from him.

[AS Monaco](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/as-monaco/mco/) kept first place in the standings with a [90-105 road win over ALBA Berlin](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/game-center/2024-25/alba-berlin-as-monaco/E2024/164/#boxscore) in Round 19. [Nick Calathes](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/nick-calathes/001932/) made his Monaco debut and everyone saw what head coach [Vassilis Spanoulis](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/as-monaco/mco/spanoulis-vassilis?season=E2024) expected from him.

Spanoulis and Calathes were Panathinaikos Athens teammates in the 2009-10 season as well as on the Greek national team. They also played against each other many times while Spanoulis was starring for Olympiacos Piraeus. The big question was how would Spanoulis integrate a veteran like Calathes into a backcourt that was working very well, led by [Mike James](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/mike-james/005985/), [Elie Okobo](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/elie-okobo/011212/) and [Jordan Loyd](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/jordan-loyd/009754/)?

The answer is simple: Calathes offers what he has always been good at: outstanding defense, court vision and vocal leadership. His numbers against ALBA were not spectacular but spoke volumes. Calathes only took one shot, which he missed, but he had 2 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 steals and 1 block for a PIR of 6 in less than 19 minutes. He was on the court when the game was decided.

Calathes returns in Berlin

After trailing 35-55 at halftime, ALBA managed to get within 86-92 on a put-back layup by [Gabriele Procida](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/gabriele-procida/008384/). That's where Calathes provided silent leadership, dishing 4 assists in the last 4 minutes to make sure Monaco cruised to a comfortable victory. He found James for a three-pointer, collected a steal and allowed James to score again, fed [Jaron Blossomgame](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/jaron-blossomgame/011231/) for the game-clinching triple and still had time to find James again for an easy basket.

It is no surprise that Monaco's offensive flow was better with Calathes around. James finished the game with a season-high 23 points. [Matthew Strazel](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/matthew-strazel/008099/) fired in 5 of 6 three-pointers on his way to 18 points, his highest-scoring mark this season. Blossomgame's 17 points matched his EuroLeague career high. Okobo and Loyd finished with 13 and 12 points, respectively.

James praised Spanoulis's adjustments after the game: "He hasn't really changed my game. I think that's just a little bit different pace that we play, with a little bit different plays, a little bit more off-screen plays, more plays to get me in movement instead of his \[Sasa Obradovic, Monaco's former head coach\] attacking in isolation all the time from the top. So it's just different," James said. 

"I think he's got different rules on defense, so that changed a lot for us. We are playing with confidence. We are trying to pick it up, he has done a great job."

Calathes is aware that he doesn't need to score to be a key piece in this team. He just needs to play excellent defense as always and put the ball in the right place. With so much scoring talent around him, his off-the-charts basketball IQ makes him shine even more.

Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade completed a perfect tour of Spain in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague with a 73-75 victory at Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz to improve to 11-8. The win came after Zvezda celebrated a 74-78 win at FC Barcelona in the previous round.

Joel Bolomboy paced Zvezda with 16 points and 8 rebounds, but it was Isaiah Canaan who emerged as the game-winner for the visitors after sinking a pair of crucial layups. Canaan finished with 15 points, despite making just 1 of 8 from downtown, while Rokas Giedraitis sank 12 points against his former club.

At the other end, Chima Moneke scored 18 points, Donta Hall netted 14 while Markus Howard and Trent Forrest chipped in with 10 each for Baskonia, which shot 0 of 15 from deep in the first half and dropped to 8-11 after a tough home loss.

The home team made a bright start and took an early 14-6 lead as Hall dominated the paint in the opening exchanges, but Zvezda hit back with a 0-10 run before getting firmly into the driver’s seat in the second quarter. Bolomboy took over as Baskonia had no reply for the Serbian outfit’s fast-paced offense, garnished with some spectacular slam-dunks, which propelled the visitors into a 28-42 halftime lead.  

Aggressive defense on the perimeter made it difficult for Baskonia to get any open looks from long range, with the hosts misfiring time and again as their backcourt struggled, particularly Howard.

Zvezda looked set for some plain sailing after engineering a 42-57 advantage in the third quarter, with Bolomboy bending the rim with yet another ferocious dunk, but Baskonia got a second win with a 10-0 run that set the scene for a tense final 10 minutes.

Baskonia closed the gap to 68-69 as Howard, who finished on 2 of 10 from downtown, hit a rare triple and the home team nosed ahead 73-71 in the home straight, as Zvezda’s offense was ground to a screeching halt. However, Canaan came up big down the stretch as he twice weaved his way through traffic to force the final twist, with Moneke falling short with a tough hook shot on the buzzer at the other end.
