Bayern took the middle two quarters 68-29 in registering a 115-86 victory over ALBA for a 7-3 record and a perfect 5-0 mark at home.

“I think we played really good basketball in the second and third quarters. We came out with a purpose in the beginning of the third which was really good. I thought we played really good basketball. It’s nice to get a win like this,” Bayern coach [Gordie Herbert](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/fc-bayern-munich/mun/herbert-gordon/?season=E2024) said. “Our offensive ball movement was much better tonight. We moved the ball, got some paint touches. And we played together as a team.”

Bayern snatched 16 steals in the win to get a new record, topping the previous best of 15 from 2015 against Khimki Moscow Region. Herbert’s troops also drained 18 three-pointers, which tied the team’s record against Darussafaka Istanbul in 2018.

Bayern’s 62 first-half points also set a new club record and were only 3 points off the EuroLeague mark, which has been done four times. 

The German champions nearly matched their EuroLeague scoring record but the final 115 points was just one away from making history. 

Bayern’s Performance Index Rating total of 134 surpassed its season high of 119 against [Paris Basketball in Round 4](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/news/bayern-survives-in-high-scoring-thriller-against-paris-109-107/).

Bayern dished out 26 assists in the game, which ranks tied for second for the club - 2 off the team’s all-time best from 2018-19.

On Thursday, however, Maledon emerged as the hero as he sank a game-high 26 points, including the last 4 which forced the final twist and helped ASVEL improve to 3-7 following several tight defeats in the opening stages of the season.

Theo Maledon shined against Zvezda

Maledon was ruthlessly efficient against Zvezda from all over as he shot 4 of 4 from two-point range, 3 of 5 from deep and 9 of 10 from the foul line to propel his team.  

Maledon was visibly overjoyed with the outcome, which eased some of the pressure off ASVEL after a series of losses that threatened to derail its EuroLeague season early on.

“This feels great,” he said in a post-game courtside interview. “We were ahead, they made a run but we got the win in the end. Everybody stayed locked in and positive for the full 40 minutes. We’ve lost some games that we could have and should have won, so it feels great not to let this one slip away.”

Big man [Joffrey Lauvergne](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/joffrey-lauvergne/004194/), who also came up big as he racked up 13 points and 10 boards for the home team, acknowledged that a timely change in fortunes could kick-start ASVEL’s bid to move up in the standings.

“It was a big fight and a pleasure to win in the last few seconds as it doesn’t happen to us very often,” said the 33-year-old center. “We need to take it one game at a time and keep improving.”

Head coach [Pierric Poupet](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/ldlc-asvel-villeurbanne/asv/poupet-pierric/?season=E2024) pointed out that commitment and effort finally paid off for his team, which made a commendable 9 of 17 from deep and a rock solid 18 of 20 from the foul line, having also won the battle of the boards 32-31 to compensate for 18 turnovers.

“We deserved it after all the hard work we put in over the last couple of weeks,” he said. ”We were unlucky a couple of times but the work we put in on a daily basis has paid off. I am very happy because we faced a good team today and we found character in the end. We were tired too but we stuck to the game plan and won.”

Olympiacos's third-quarter defense turned the tide for fifth straight win

After [Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/maccabi-playtika-tel-aviv/tel/) netted 29 points in the second quarter to take a 53-42 lead into the second half, [Olympiacos Piraeus](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/olympiacos-piraeus/oly/) head coach Georgios Bartzokas didn’t mince his words in the halftime interview. 

“Nothing \[worked out\] defensively or offensively,” Bartzokas admitted. “We stopped passing the ball, we had just 1 assist in this period of time \[second quarter\]. On defense we were loose. We need to completely change our approach \[in the second half\].”

And change their approach they did. Olympiacos tightened up its defense, producing numerous stops and deflections on one end that allowed the visitors to loosen up and circulate the ball with confidence on the other after scoring just 13 points in the second quarter. The Reds produced 5 steals, protected the paint with 3 blocks and forced Maccabi to 7 turnovers – 2 more than what it committed in the first 20 minutes.

“The most important \[thing\] is that we took the win tonight,” [Nikola Milutinov](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/nikola-milutinov/003941/), who paired his 11 points with 8 rebounds, told EuroLeague TV. “It was a tough game for us, especially when we put ourselves in a bad position in the first half, when Maccabi was playing amazing in the second quarter. But in the third quarter we stepped up, everybody was playing more aggressive and better defensively and this is what got us back in the game.”

Energized by a rigid defense, Olympiacos’s offense took over, with the guests outscoring Maccabi 10-28 in the third quarter. [Sasha Vezenkov](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/sasha-vezenkov/003469/) and [Evan Fournier](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/evan-fournier/013380/) stood out for yet another game, with the latter taking over to inspire Olympiacos’s comeback with 10 points and 2 assists in the third. This was the fourth game in a row where Fournier and Vezenkov scored at least 18 points each, with the two Olympiacos stars netting at least 20 points apiece in the last three duels. Their performance on offense has played a key role in Olympiacos extending its winning streak to five wins, with the Greek side currently boasting a 7-3 record.

Next up is a tough clash against Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz in Piraeus, where Olympiacos will look to protect its home court. Should Bartzokas’s men maintain the defensive level they produced in the third quarter away at Maccabi, they would have made a big step towards remaining undefeated at home this season.

AS Monaco downed Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz 75-87 in Round 10, dominating the game almost from start to finish. Mike James grabbed another win at Buesa Arena. 


Mike James remains Baskonia's nightmare

Outstanding first-half defense, hustle and a balanced offense were [AS Monaco](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/as-monaco/mco/)'s three pillars in its [75-87 road win](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/news/monaco-dominates-in-vitoria-75-87/) at [Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/baskonia-vitoria-gasteiz/bas/). Monaco used an early 1-17 run to take full control of the game. It outrebounded Baskonia 6-14 in the first quarter, dishing 7 assists and causing the hosts to miss all of their 5 shots from beyond the arc.

The second quarter was not much different, as Monaco found easier baskets in transition, finishing the first half with 14 assists and 6 turnovers. It also made 6 of 13 shots from beyond the arc (46.2% 3FG), much better numbers than Baskonia, which only hit once from downtown in 12 attempts (8.3%). The teams' PIR said it all. At halftime, Baskonia had a PIR of 16 against Monaco's 65.

"The results shows how satisfied I can be," Monaco head coach Sasa Obradovic said at halftime. "But satisfaction is always short-term. In our job, this can change very fast. And could go very fast in another direction. It is very important to start well in the third quarter, not to give their shooters an option to come back, use some smart fouls to stop them. This is one of the keys to win, and play our game. Offensively, we were very good."

Predictably, it didn't happen. Pushed by a great crowd, Baskonia found a go-to guy in [Chima Moneke](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/chima-moneke/012201/), who scored all of his 16 points in the second half. It got plenty of help from [Nikos Rogkavopoulos](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/nikolaos-rogkavopoulos/011085/) to bring Baskonia within 55-60. That's when Monaco went to its core players, finding answers on offense, and its great hustle did the rest.

[Elie Okobo](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/elie-okobo/011212/) and [Mike James](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/mike-james/005985/) combined for 31 points – and 17 of those came in the fourth quarter. James finished the game with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists against his former team. 

Monaco ended up winning in all hustle stats, getting 37 rebounds, 10 steals and 6 blocks. Baskonia had 34 rebounds, 8 steals and 2 blocks. James and Monaco have won their last five EuroLeague games against Baskonia.

"We got off to such a hot start and obviously, in the third quarter, we just relaxed a little bit too much and didn't keep our foot on the gas. We are still growing, it is a learning lesson," James said after the game. 

"We just tried to stay composed \[when Baskonia came back\]. We have been together for a while, some of us. We just tried to weather the storm and stand tall at the end."

On another night of high drama at the Wizink Center, Anadolu Efes Istanbul withstood an incredible comeback from Real Madrid to win 64-74, for the Spanish team’s first home loss of the season. Efes improved to 6-4 after two road wins this week, while Real dropped to 4-6.

Efes took control as Real endured a dismal first quarter, scoring just 6 points, and the margin stretched to 27 points in the second quarter. The hosts roared back to a 1-point margin after the break, but Efes found fresh resolve to hold on.

Elijah Bryant paced Efes with 13 points, Jordan Nwora and Darius Thompson both scored 10, while Vincent Poirier had 8 points, 6 rebounds and 2 blocked shots against his former team. Facundo Campazzo led all scorers with 20 points and Mario Hezonja added 13.

Alberto Abalde opened the scoring but Thompson hit a triple and an explosive dunk to give Efes the early edge, and Poirier added another slam to make it 4-9. Neither team scored for three minutes before Ercan Osmani netted a three, and Poirier added a putback slam for a 4-15 lead. Osmani scored again and Rolands Smits threw down a fastbreak dunk, before Gabriel Deck ended Real’s long drought to finish the first quarter 6-19.

Rodrigue Beaubois’s floater opened the second quarter before Hugo Gonzalez nailed an alley-oop slam. Dan Oturu and Serge Ibaka traded tough inside scores, and Bryant’s floater extended the gap to 20 points, 10-30. Campazzo scored a layup and one before finally netting Real’s first triple, at the 14th attempt. Bryant responded with a three-point play, and Smits added a fadeaway to make it 16-37. Bryant’s jumper and Nwora’s triple made it 18-45, before Hezonja’s three-point play and Campazzo’s runner reduced the gap to 25-47 at the break.

Abalde and Poirier scored inside early in the second half before Deck scored two in a row to give Real some hope, 31-51. Campazzo added a three-pointer and a fastbreak layup to make it 38-52, as Efes failed to score a field goal in five minutes. Poirier’s alley-oop ended that barren run, but Hezonja hit a triple and an astonishing reverse slam to make it a single-digit game, 45-54. Nwora’s transition three settled Efes, but Campazzo scored again to make it 49-58 with 10 minutes left.

Heoznja opened the final quarter with a triple, and Sergio Llull’s fastbreak layup made it 54-58. Bryant’s jumper and Beaubois’s triple rescued Efes, but Hezonja’s fadeaway kept pushing Real and Llull’s triple made it a one-possession game, 61-63, also recording his 4,000th point in the competition. But there was no more drama: Derek Willis’s three-pointer kept Efes ahead, and Beaubois added another for a 62-69 lead. Campazzo’s technical foul for flopping sealed the outcome, as Real’s comeback fell short.

LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne ground out a hard-fought 77-74 home win over Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade in Round 10 of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, improving to 3-7 while the visitors dropped to 5-5.

Theo Maledon produced a majestic performance as he paced the home team with a game-high 26 points and veteran center Joffrey Lauvergne chipped in with 13 points and 10 boards, while David Lighty added 12 points for ASVEL.

At the other end, Filip Petrusev served up another fine display to lead Zvezda with 18 points and 7 boards, but the Serbian side fell short of completing a road treble over French opposition. Having beaten Paris Basketball 77-80 in Round 1, Zvezda also sank AS Monaco 90-98 earlier this week. Isaiah Canaan netted 14 points and Yago Dos Santos amassed 13 for the Serbian team, which threw away a 71-74 lead in the final minute as Maledon stepped up for ASVEL.

The game was played at frantic pace throughout as ASVEL carved out a 24-20 advantage at the end of the first quarter on the back of 8 points each from Maledon and Lighty, while Petrusev racked up 9 at the other end with Zvezda collecting 5 offensive boards.   

The hosts upped the tempo in the second as Lauvergne started causing Zvezda all sorts of problems in the paint and ASVEL romped away into a 43-32 halftime lead, shooting 5 of 9 from deep and winning the battle of the boards 18-13 in the opening half.

ASVEL kept its foot on the gas early in the third quarter and extended its lead to 47-34 before Zvezda replied with a 4-15 run on the back of 3 three-pointers from Canaan, who found his rage from downtown to haul his team back into the contest.

The home team appeared to be firmly in the driving seat early in the fourth after surging ahead 61-51, but Zvezda again hit back with a 0-11 streak to turn the tables and nose ahead. A tit-for-tat battle ensued in the home straight and the visiting team looked the more likely winner after Canaan hit a baseline triple to give it a 71-74 lead with 55 seconds left on the clock.

However, ASVEL had the last laugh as Nando De Colo sank a pair of free throws before Maledon buried a layup and then made no mistake from the foul line to make it 77-74. Milos Teodosic failed to force overtime from deep on Zvezda’s last possession, sparking loud celebrations among the home fans.

FC Bayern Munich bounced back from a road loss earlier in the week to rout German rival ALBA Berlin 115-86 and remain perfect at home this season.

FC Bayern Munich bounced back from a road loss earlier in the week to rout German rival ALBA Berlin 115-86 and remain perfect at home this season. Bayern took control of the game with a 34-15 second quarter and never looked back in improving to 7-3 - including a 5-0 mark at home. The 62 points in the first half was a club record for Bayern and just 3 points off the EuroLeague best of 65 points. Bayern tied its club record with 18 three-pointers and was just 1 point shy of its scoring record.

Carsen Edwards led the way with 25 points, Devin Booker scored 18, Nick Weiler-Babb picked up 12 points and a career-high 11 assists and Andreas Obst had 11 points. ALBA was not able to match its effort from its Round 9 overtime win over EA7 Emporio Armani Milan as head coach Israel Gonzalez was still missing seven key players and fell to 2-8. Matteo Spagnolo set a new career high in points with 23 just two days after registering his previous best of 20 points. Trevion Williams collected 16 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals, and Yanni Wetzell and Elias Rapieque both added 11 points in the loss.

Booker started on fire for Bayern with 6 points and Obst and Edwards drained back-to-back triples as the hosts went up 14-6. While Booker moved to 11 points in the quarter, Spagnolo matched that with his own 11 points and Williams came on with a three-point play and 2 assists to help ALBA move ahead 23-24. Booker remained a force with a three-pointer and Bayern led 28-27 after 10 minutes. 

Shabazz Napier came on for the hosts in the second quarter with 2 three-pointers among his 8 points to get the advantage to 38-30. Spagnolo moved to 16 points for ALBA but Edwards went off with 3 triples within 51 seconds to start a 19-2 surge for a 59-38 lead. Edwards added a three-point play for 19 points in the first half, which ended with Bayern leading 62-42.

Bayern’s offense continued to cruise in the second half with Obst and Edwards hitting triples for a 74-47 lead. The hosts’ sharpshooters just kept shooting with Weiler-Babb draining three-pointers and Edwards making his 6th triple for an 85-54 advantage. Yam Madar and Obst each added another triple and then Oscar da Silva hit a buzzer-beater from beyond half-court for a 96-56 Bayern lead after 30 minutes.

ALBA tried to make the result a bit more respectable and opened the fourth quarter with the first 8 points. Williams and Ziga Samar helped ALBA trim the gap to 102-76 with about 4 minutes to play. The only question would be if Bayern would set a new club scoring record down the stretch but the team came up just 1 point short.

AS Monaco sent a message that echoed all around the competition by beating Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz 75-87 at Buesa Arena in Round 10 on Thursday. Monaco improved to 6-4 in the standings, while Baskonia dropped to 4-6 and is on a four-game losing streak. 

Mike James led the winners with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. Elie Okobo added 15 points for Monaco. Chima Moneke and Tadas Sedekerskis paced Baskonia with 16 points apiece. Donta Hall added 12 and Nikos Rogkavopoulos had 11 for the hosts.

Hall got Baskonia going with a layup. Jaron Blossomgame followed a tip-in with a three-pointer for a 2-5 Monaco lead. Vitto Brown improved on Kamar Baldwin's layup with a bomb from downtown and James added an acrobatic basket. Brown soon added a corner triple to make it a double-digit game, 4-14. Matthew Strazel and James each struck from downtown and Alpha Diallo boosted the guests' lead to 5-22, after a 1-17 run. Rogkavopoulos stepped up with a layup that Diallo erased from the foul line to fix the score at 7-24 after 10 minutes.

Rogkavopoulos tried to ignite Baskonia's comeback with a put-back layup early in the second quarter. Okobo and Diallo, however, boosted the guests' lead to 9-28. Okobo erased Hall's one-handed put-back slam with a floater, then Georgios Papagiannis buried back-to-back triples and added a jumper to break the game open, 13-38. Hall dunked again and Rogkavopoulos improved on Jordan Loyd's circus shot with a bomb from beyond the arc. Donatas Motiejunas rescued Monaco with 5 quick points, getting help from Blossomgame to boost Monaco's lead to 20-47. Sedekerskis brought Baskonia closer, 20-47, at halftime.

James took over with a driving layup soon after the break. Moneke found his first points and Sedekerskis's corner triple gave Baskonia hope at 29-49. Moneke took over with a driving layup that Strazel bettered with a rainbow three-pointer. Luwawu-Cabarrot finished a three-chance Baskonia offense with a layup. Then Sedekerskis prompted the visitors to call timeout at 35-52. Loyd and Diallo each downed a triple to restore a 38-58 Monaco lead. A red-hot Moneke answered with back-to-back three-point plays and a pair of free throws to make it 46-58. Rogkavopoulos ignited the crowd with a four-point play, getting help from Hall and Kamar Baldwin to bring Baskonia much closer, 55-62, after 30 minutes.

Okobo sank a three-pointer early in the fourth quarter and erased Hall's put-back slam with a rainbow floater for a 57-66 Monaco lead. Loyd stepped up for the visitors and Okobo bettered Moneke's put-back layup with a three-point play. Baldwin scored off a spin move, but James and Loyd kept Monaco way ahead, 61-75, with 6 minutes left. James hit a scoop shot in the lane and buried a three-pointer that sealed the outcome, 61-80. Even though Baskonia never gave up, Monaco kept full control of the game and cruised to a well-deserved road victory.
