Valencia’s adjustments spark thrilling finish

It was one of those classic EuroLeague battles — fought possession by possession, point by point. When the final buzzer sounded, Valencia Basket had edged Dubai Basketball 80–78, securing its third consecutive victory. Valencia remains unbeaten at Roig Arena in front of its fans across all competitions. Its only home loss came against Hapoel IBI Tel Aviv in a closed-door match. Meanwhile, Dubai dropped to 1–5 on the road, despite showing promise at halftime under Coach [Jurica Golemac](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/dubai-basketball/dub/golemac-jurica).

Opponents have struggled to outpace Valencia in possessions this season, but Dubai’s strategy broke that trend. By halftime, Dubai had grabbed 8 offensive rebounds to Valencia’s 4. Although Dubai averaged 13.8 turnovers per game before this matchup, it forced Valencia into 12 first-half turnovers while committing just 7 of its own. That translated into nine extra possessions and a 41–38 lead at the break. [Darius Thompson](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/darius-thompson/011078/) delivered one of the season’s standout moments with a poster dunk over [Justin Anderson](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/justin-anderson/012795/), but overall, Valencia struggled to find rhythm.

“We had too many turnovers,” [Coach Martínez](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/valencia-basket/pam/martinez-pedro) said at halftime. "That means shots that we don't make, and easy shots for them. I think this is making the difference. We need to improve on defensive rebounds, too."

Valencia responded after the break with sharper rebounding and better ball control. In the second half, the hosts tallied 9 offensive rebounds and just 7 turnovers, while Dubai managed 4 offensive boards and committed 9 turnovers. Valencia capitalized on those seven extra possessions, setting the stage for a nail-biting finish.

[Omari Moore](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/omari-moore/014115/)’s fast-break layup gave Valencia a 74–73 edge and he later made jump hook and followed [McKinley Wright](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/mckinley-wright-iv/012606/)’s turnaround jumper with a driving basket to seal the final score, 80–78, with 21.6 seconds left. The game came down to the finest margins: Valencia forced Dubai into an off-balance shot, and Bacon’s three-point attempt rattled out. [Davis Bertans](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/davis-bertans/003458/) missed a desperation three at the buzzer.

"A lot of that credit goes to my teammates. They had a lot of trust in me down the stretch, and I was able to make a couple of plays," Moore said. "Every game we are not going to be able to make all our shots, but we stayed poised. They have a lot of talented players, so we had to lock in on defense, get a couple of stops, rebound and just keep trusting in our game. We were able to come through with the win."

Moore emerged as Valencia’s clutch-time hero, scoring the team’s last 4 points in the final 66 seconds. But before that, Valencia had to regroup at halftime, correct its earlier mistakes, and return with the right mindset. In games like this — especially at the end of a double-round week — staying competitive and giving yourself a chance to win in the final moments is crucial, as Coach Martínez emphasized post-game.

"It was a very tight game that both teams could win. I am very proud for everybody," he said. "For the players that finished the game and for the players that played maybe 2-3 minutes. They are great. They have a great mentality and I really love them."

That steal – the first of 3 in the game for the veteran guard – put him in sole possession of fourth place on the all-time EuroLeague steal charts with 368. It would also be one of the last highlights of the game for ASVEL.

[Zalgiris Kaunas](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/teams/zalgiris-kaunas/zal/) broke the game open late in the first quarter to lead by 11 after 10 minutes and it would never look back, go onto to 96-59 romp, which matched the club record for the largest win ever in the EuroLeague. Over the next 95 seconds, he drained a three pointer, stole a ball and then dished to Wright for a slam, keying a 9-1 run to the delight of the home fans.

Mikalauskas finished with 5 points, 5 assists and 2 steals – for a PIR of 13 – in less than 11 minutes on the floor. Another player with a bright future, [Mantas Rubstavicius](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/mantas-rubstavicius/009299/), scored 8 points, including a soaring slam in the closing minutes that was the exclamation points on the win. Rubstavicius had totaled 3 points in five appearances prior to this game.

Francisco, the Round 7 co-MVP, continued his torrid start to the season with 15 points and 7 assists in just 19 minutes, while Wright posted 14 points and 7 boards in roughly the same playing time.

Zalgiris outshot ASVEL from every distance, including going 9 of 17 from deep (52.9%) and won the battle of the boards (39-29), but none of that was the focus of head coach Tomas Masiulis after the game.

"It was a great team win. We controlled the game through defense and as a coach I am very happy about this. I am proud for our fans," Masiulis said at the post-game press conference.

The focus on teamwork and defense has trickled through the roster, as evidenced by the play of sharpshooter [Deividas Sirvydis](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/deividas-sirvydis/007029/), whose 10 points gave his three straight games with double figures. Sirvydis, who also contributed 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals, seamed to have channeled his coach in his post-game interview on EuroLeague TV.

"The only word is defense… Luck. Defense and staying together," he said in asked what decided the game. "Today we celebrate, we enjoy. Tomorrow, we forget everything and get ready for the next game."

Indeed, Zalgiris finished the night even with league-leader Hapoel IBI Tel Aviv on wins with 6 and could be tied for first place by the end of the round. Despite the night's achievements – a blowout win, a sparkling debut for a rising star, one of the best records in the league – Zalgiris will limit the celebrations to tonight and tomorrow will get back to working hard.

"It’s nice to break or tie a record, but it doesn’t matter if you win by 1 or 40 or 37. We are just enjoying it and I’m glad we got a win."

Len started his professional career in Ukraine in 2010-11 by playing for Dnipro, before heading to the United States to represent the University of Maryland. After starring at Maryland, he was selected by the Suns with the fifth overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft.

In 690 career regular-season games in the NBA, Len has averaged 6.7 points, 5.3 rebounds and 0.9 assists per night. He also made 14 appearances in the NBA Playoffs, posting averages of 2.8 points and 2.5 rebounds.

The Spanish team – which leads the league in scoring (94.1 points per game) again showed its potential by comfortably beating reigning champ Fenerbahce on Tuesday, underlining its impressive depth as Tyson Carter top scored with 17 points. Dubai can rely on the consistency of Filip Petrusev (15.9 points and 7.3 rebounds per night), and he needs a strong game against a Valencia team which ranks second in offensive boards (14.3 per game). The visitor has the competition’s best interior defense, conceding just 50.5% of two-point attempts, but needs Dwayne Bacon to rediscover form at the other end after going 2-of-12 from the field two days ago.

### EA7 Emporio Armani Milan vs. Paris Basketball (20:30 CET)

Two of Round 7’s losers will seek an immediate return to winning ways as Milan (2-5) receives a visit from Paris (4-3). Milan suffered a narrow defeat at Barcelona despite a strong performance from Armoni Brooks (15 points on 3-of-4 three-point shooting), and needs others to find their range from deep after making just 7 of its 27 attempts (25.9%). Paris, in contrast, was overcome at home by Efes after a bad night inside the paint, converting only 11 of its 29 two-point attempts (37.9%), with star scorer Nadir Hifi struggling from the field as he made just 2-of-16 field goals. This is a true clash of styles, with the league’s third-best defense (Milan has allowed just 80.4 points per game) attempting to clamp down the third-best offense (Paris averages 91.7 points).

### Real Madrid vs. Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul (21:00 CET)

Two struggling heavyweights meet in Madrid as 2023 champion Real (3-4) welcomes current title holder Fenerbahce (3-4). The home team needs a strong response after a disastrous second half relinquished a 16-point lead at Bayern in Round 7, despite forward Trey Lyles continuing his strong form by combining 20 points and 6 rebounds. The Turkish team trailed from start to finish in Tuesday’s loss at Valencia, so will be targeting a fast start and better ball movement after only managing 14 assists at the Roig Arena. Talen Horton-Tucker is showing signs of becoming a team leader after returning to fitness and he faces a good battle with Theo Maledon, who is gradually finding form with Real and posted 15 points plus 4 assists two nights ago.

Friday tips off with a heavyweight showdown between two of last season’s Final Four contestants as Monaco (4-3) faces Panathinaikos (5-2). The Roca Team has already beaten one Greek giant this week following Wednesday’s impressive road win at Olympiacos, and all-time EuroLeague top scorer Mike James will face his former team full of confidence after combining 23 points with 10 assists. Panathinaikos needs to find solutions in the paint after Richaun Holmes suffered injury during Tuesday’s win over Maccabi, and Omer Yurtseven will face a heavy workload after a registering a big double-double (16 points, 13 rebounds) in that victory. The Greens will also hope that Cedi Osman, who played nearly 38 minutes earlier this week, has enough energy to subdue Alpha Diallo, another star of Monaco’s win in Piraeus.

A key matchup in the middle of the standings will see Partizan (3-4) defend its home court against a visit from Barcelona (4-3). New Partizan signing Nick Calathes could debut by facing his former club, and he will try to provide more fluidity to an offense which ranks last in the league in assists (15.7 per game). The Serbian team, which lost at Hapoel on Wednesday, will hope that Sterling Brown can continue to shine after netting 25 and 19 points in the last two games, but Barca showed its defensive capabilities by grinding out a 74-72 win over Milan last time out. Francisco scored a season-high 23 points and dished 10 assists for his first career double-double to lead Zalgiris to an 86-65 victory over Virtus Bologna. He made 4 of 5 two-point shots and 3 of 6 three-pointers while also collecting 3 rebounds and even blocking 1 shot en route to the second MVP of the Round award of his career. 

Moneke stood tall to lead Zvezda to a 79-65 triumph over LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne with 24 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. He missed only one field goal all night and only played 22 minutes. This marks the fourth MVP of the Round in Moneke’s trophy case. 

The third-best PIR of the round came from [Alpha Diallo](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/alpha-diallo/011226/) with a 32 in AS Monaco's 87-92 win at Olympiacos Piraeus. The do-it-all forward made 8 of 9 two-point shots and 3 of 4 triple in setting a career-high in scoring with 27 points. He added 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. 

Rounding out the list of the round's top performers were [Isiaha Mike](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/isiaha-mike/011836/) of FC Bayern Munich and Monaco's [Mike James](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/mike-james/005985/). Mike helped Bayern drop Real Madrid 90-84 with a career-best 29 points and 7 rebounds for a PIR of 30. James contributed 23 points and 10 assists in his team's win. 

### Individual highs: Isiaha Mike of FC Bayern Munich, 29 points 

Isiaha Mike was Round 7's best scorer with his career-high 29 points. Paris Basketball’s [Nadir Hifi](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/nadir-hifi/012640/) remains the EuroLeague's top scorer this season with 22.0 points per game.

The best rebounder in Round 7 was [Omer Yutseven](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/omer-yurtseven/005353/) of Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens with 13. Olympiacos Piraeus’s [Sasha Vezenkov](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/sasha-vezenkov/003469/) continues to lead the league in rebounding with an average of 8.7 boards per game.

Sylvain Francisco and Mike James each dished 10 assists in Round 7 to lead the charts. Francisco climbed atop the season-long rankings with 6.7 assists per game, a shade ahead of James's 6.6. 

[Cedi Osman](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/cedi-osman/004088/) recorded 4 steals for Panathinaikos in Round 7, which were the most by any player. Hifi remains atop the table for the season with an average of 2.1 per game.

Hapoel IBI Tel Aviv center [Dan Oturu](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/dan-oturu/012788/) rejected 4 shots to stand above all other shot-blockers in Round 7. With 1.4 blocks per game, he is second to only Real Madrid’s [Walter Tavares](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/walter-tavares/005791/) (1.6 bpg.) for most blocks this season.

Five players posted double-doubles in Round 7. Francisco and James were the only two to do so with points and assists. AS Monaco made a statement by going on the road and edging Olympiacos Piraeus 87-92 in a hard-fought affair in Round 7 of the 2025-26 EuroLeague Regular Season, with Mike James and Alpha Diallo playing key roles in the win.

It might still be too early in the season, but it feels as though [AS Monaco](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/teams/as-monaco/mco/) made a statement on Wednesday night.

Of course, it can be argued that being the reigning EuroLeague runner-up does free a team from needing to make statements in the first place, but Monaco made one nevertheless, going on the road and edging [Olympiacos Piraeus](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/teams/olympiacos-piraeus/oly/) 87-92 in a hard-fought affair.

“I think we played a really good game,” Monaco star guard and the EuroLeague’s all-time leading scorer [Mike James](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/mike-james/005985/) said with a smile in a EuroLeague TV interview after the win.

James orchestrated things on the floor at the Peace and Friendship Stadium, playing 32 minutes and posting a double-double of 23 points and 10 assists. He shot 3 of 6 from long range, made 5 of 7 twos, and also had 4 rebounds.

It was his best performance of this young campaign, and he now sits in second place in the league in assists this season with 6.6 per game.

His performance, and the game’s outcome, came as a bit of *déjà vu*.

Olympiacos Piraeus-AS Monaco | Round 7 Highlights | 2025-26 EuroLeague

This was a rematch of last season’s Final Four semifinals, in which James starred in Monaco’s win over the Reds in Abu Dhabi. But just like in that historic semifinal win, in this Round 7 affair in Piraeus, James had a sidekick – and just like in Abu Dhabi, there was that same other protagonist, [Alpha Diallo](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/alpha-diallo/011226/), who pushed and pulled Monaco to victory once again.

Diallo played 35 minutes and 17 seconds in this Round 7 clash, scoring a career-high 27 points. He made 8 of 9 twos and 3 of 4 threes, and chipped in 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals to his all-round effort.

Both players earned great praise from their head coach, Vassilis Spanoulis.

“\[Mike James\] had 10 assists, but could have had more, we missed some open threes,” Spanoulis said. “Everybody knows he can score. He was very concentrated, he always made the right play.

“Alpha played incredible,” Spanoulis continued. “You cannot judge Alpha from the points he scored. He plays incredible defense and in all the aspects of the game, that you cannot see on the stat sheet.”

Diallo, playing in his fifth EuroLeague season, all with Monaco, is an all-out effort player who reads the game so well on both ends of the floor that he simply makes the team better.

In addition to his defensive prowess, after this 27-point performance, Diallo is now also averaging 14.3 points on 43.5% three-point shooting, turning himself in a nightmare for opposing defenses, too.

“I just go out there and hoop every night, just to be an every-day guy,” Diallo tried to explain his approach on EuroLeague TV. “I try to come in, do the little stuff and just whatever it takes to win. I am happy I keep improving, it shows the work I’ve put in, and it is showing off.”

The win improved Monaco's record to 4-3, working like a charm after the team lost in its two previous road games, in Bologna against Virtus and in Sofia against Hapoel IBI Tel Aviv.

The next stop in just 48 hours is a home tilt against Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens.

Boasting a deep roster at Hapoel, Itoudis emerged as a worthy winner in Sofia. The noisy Partizan fans made the Serbian outfit feel at home, although it’s currently Hapoel’s turf until the club’s long-awaited return to its Tel Aviv base in December.

No less than seven Hapoel players scored in double figures and the outcome epitomized the team’s unselfish approach as [Collin Malcolm](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/collin-malcolm/012609/) led the way on 17 points and 7-of-8 shooting from the floor, with the hosts sinking 12 of 26 three-pointers in a high-octane clash.

Having praised his teammates, Malcolm also struck a note of caution that Hapoel should take nothing for granted so early in the season, despite making the headlines time and again since the club hit uncharted territory by joining Europe’s premier club competition this term.

“We did a really good job handling their physicality and pressure in the second half and once we started finding the right guys, we started to score,” Malcolm said in his post-game comments. “It’s good to see that we’re progressing but nobody won the league after seven rounds so we’ve still got a long way to go. This team is capable of a lot of good things so we’re now focused on Round 8 and the matchup with Olympiacos.”

Big man [Dan Oturu](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/dan-oturu/012788/) racked up 14 points and 6 boards, [Antonio Blakeney](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/antonio-blakeney/013402/) added 13 points while [Chris Jones](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/chris-jones/010568/) chipped in with 12. [Ish Wainright](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/ish-wainright/013284/) and [Elijah Bryant](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/elijah-bryant/009846/) added 11 apiece and [Vasilije Micic](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/vasilije-micic/002580/) sank 10 to round up Hapoel’s smooth all-round display which saw Partizan reeling throughout the second half after staying on an even keel in the opening 20 minutes.

The visiting team’s new signing [Bruno Fernando](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/bruno-fernando/013667/) made a limited impact in the paint as the big man from Angola finished on 6 points and 3 boards, with [Sterling Brown](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/sterling-brown/012720/) pacing Partizan on 19 points and [Duane Washington](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/duane-washington/013370/) adding 15. They were the only two visiting players in double figures, however, with the long-term absence of livewire playmaker [Carlik Jones](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/carlik-jones/013369/) beginning to bite hard as Partizan slipped to 3-4 after a second successive crushing defeat following the previous round’s 83-101 home drubbing by Paris Basketball.

Having singled out Malcolm, Coach Itoudis underlined that Hapoel’s deep roster gave him plenty of options at both ends of the court. “We’re a new team and still getting to know each other but we had a good second half, scoring 54 points and shooting 7 of 14 from three-point range,” the Greek tactician said.

“Congrats to the players, we managed to win even though we didn’t have a great game. A deep roster helps in having different protagonists every game. The bench contributes too while Malcolm is effective all over, on offense and defense.”

Obradovic, who faces an uphill battle to get his shorthanded team back on track with guard [Shake Milton](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/shake-milton/014007/) also sidelined by injury, could only acknowledge that is men fell woefully short in a lop-sided second half.  “It was a game of two different halves,” said the winner of a record nine EuroLeague titles with five different clubs. “The first half was close but in the second we made all sorts of mistakes as our defense was terrible and Hapoel fully deserved their win.”

[Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/panathinaikos-aktor-athens/pan/) has locked down one of its core veterans by signing forward [Konstantinos Mitoglou](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/konstantinos-mitoglou/profile/007866/) to a contract extension through the 2028-29 season. 

Mitoglou (2.10 meters, 29 years old), a veteran of seven EuroLeague seasons, has played all but one of them with the Greens, which he helped to the EuroLeague crown in 2024. He has posted 5.1 points and 3.1 rebounds in seven EuroLeague so far this season and has averaged 7.4 points and 4.2 rebounds in 177 career EuroLeague games with Panathinaikos.

A native of Thessaloniki, Mitoglou played for Asteria and Aris in his hometown before heading to the United States to play college basketball at Wake Forest University. He returned to Greece in 2017 when he signed with Panathinaikos and has been there ever since, spare the 2021-22 campaign with EA7 Emporio Armani Milan.

Mitoglou has won four Greek championships and two Greek Cups with Panathinaikos and the 2021 Italian League with Milan. He has also represented Greece at both the Olympic Games and the FIBA World Cup.
