The visitors led for the whole game and went up by as many as 24 points, but they were made to sweat in the fourth quarter

Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul has locked up the No. 2 seed in the EuroLeague Playoffs after beating FC Bayern Munich 77-89 at SAP Garden, with this result ending the German team’s top-six hopes and ensuring it will be playing in the Play-In Showdown, although its final position is not yet determined.
Nigel Hayes-Davis was Fenerbahce’s leading scorer with 24 points, followed by Errick McCollum, Wade Baldwin, Nicolo Melli and Tarik Biberovic, who all netted 11 points apiece. Bayern’s Carsen Edwards poured in a game-high 26 points, with Devin Booker adding 15 points.

Roared on by an impressive number of travelling fans, Fenerbahce came out the gates fast and leaned on the three-ball to open a 4-18 lead. In that run, McCollum and Melli struck twice each from deep, while Biberovic also hit from long range. Bayern started to respond midway through the quarter, but scores by Biberovic and Bonzie Colson allowed Fenerbahce to lead 13-28 after 10 minutes.
The gap kept growing early in the second, as Devon Hall drained a three, Khem Birch scored inside and Colson made the most of an Edwards turnover to make it a 19-point gap, 16-35. A couple of threes, first by Hayes-Davis and then by Melli, swelled it to a 24-point margin at 19-43 shortly after. Booker then started playmaking inside, dishing a couple of assists and scoring himself, before Nick Weiler-Babb’s triple cut it to 31-46 at halftime.
Birch’s score inside to start the third seemed like a bad omen, 31-48, but Bayern regrouped through Booker and Edwards to show signs of life, 37-51. However, Hayes-Davis drained his second three in quick succession to move to 17 points personal and make it a 17-point ballgame, 37-54. Biberovic, McCollum and Hayes-Davis combined to devastating effect as the visitors led 42-62, but Edwards and Niels Giffey reduced it to 51-64. Danko Brankovic split free throws with 18 seconds left in the period as Fenerbahce took a 52-68 lead into the fourth.
Edward started to take over for Bayern in the early stages of the fourth, scoring 11 points as the hosts made it a single-digit contest, 68-75. It was Edwards who responded to a Melli dunk to get Bayern within six, 71-77, but Fenerbahce hit back through Baldwin, Marko Guduric and Hayes-Davis as it became a 15-point ballgame again, 71-86, with 43 seconds remaining. Fenerbahce eventually saw its 77-89 victory over the line.
