Cluj re-signs big man Mareks Mejeris
U-BT Cluj-Napoca and Mareks Mejeris reached agreement on a deal that will keep them together for the 2024-25 season. Mejeris (2.07 meters, 32 years old) joined Cluj last season and helped it win the Romanian League and Cup double and reach the BKT EuroCup quarterfinals. He averaged 5.6 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 18 EuroCup games and 6.6 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists in domestic competition.
Considered to be an outstanding defensive player, Mejeris began his career with Liepajas Papirs in his native Latvia and also played for Liepajas Lauvas before heading abroad for the first time to play for Clavijo in Spain in 2011 when he was 20 years old. He has since played for Fuenlabrada and Burgos in Spain; VEF Riga in Latvia, Elan Chalon in France, Parma Perm in Russia, Pesaro in Italy and Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem in Israel. Mejeris won the Latvian League three times with Riga and was named the MVP of the finals in two of those seasons. His trophy case also includes the 2023 Israeli Cup with Jerusalem.
