Gran Canaria re-signs star guard Andrew Albicy
Dreamland Gran Canaria has reached an agreement with starting playmaker Andrew Albicy to remain together through the end of the 2025-26 season, the club announced Monday. Albicy (1.78 meters, 34 years old) just completed his fourth season with Gran Canaria and averaged 6.5 points and 4.8 assists in 19 BKT EuroCup games. He helped Gran Canaria win the EuroCup crown in 2023.
Albicy started his career in his native France with Paris Basket Racing, Paris-Levallois and BCM Gravelines Dunkerque. He has also played for Morabanc Andorra and Zenit St Petersburg of Russia and been a member of the French national team. He helped France to the bronze medals at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and the 2019 World Cup and silver medals at EuroBasket 2011 and EuroBasket 2022. Albicy also helped Levallois win the French Cup in 2013.
A EuroCup legend
On top of his EuroCup title in 2023, Albicy reached the semifinals twice more, with Andorra in 2019 and Gran Canaria in 2021. He was named to the 2018-19 All-EuroCup First Team. Albicy is all over the EuroCup's all-time lists. He ranks second all-time in assists (610) and steals (172), only trailing Stefan Markovic (698 assists, 214 steals). He also ranks eighth in PIR (1,445), is tied for 15th in three-point shots made (164) for fourth in fouls drawn (426). In 120 career games with Gravelines, Levallois, Andorra and Gran Canaria, Albicy has averaged 8.1 points and 5.1 assists for a PIR of 12.0.
