He arrives from Bayern
Hamburg tabs forward Niklas Wimberg
Veolia Hamburg Towers bolstered its frontcourt by inking power forward Niklas Wimberg to a two-year deal, the club announced Monday.
Wimberg (2.06 meters, 28 years old) arrives from FC Bayern Munich, where he averaged 1.3 points and 1.3 rebounds in 12 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague games last season. He also helped his team win the German double.
"Niklas has already had an eventful career," said Hamburg head coach Benka Barloschky in a statement. "He has matured over several stages to become the player he is now. He didn't take the easy route; he worked hard for it. He has trained and played at the highest level for the last two years. The move to Hamburg now means a bigger role and maximum responsibility for him. That's exactly what he wants and I trust him to do it."
He has played his entire career in his native Germany, starting it with Oldenburger TB and also playing for EWE Baskets Oldenburg, BiG Oettinger Rockets Gotha, Eisbaeren Bremenhaven and NINERS Chemnitz. Wimberg also won the German Cup with Bayern in 2023 and has been a member of the German national team.
