Jordan Theodore’s near-perfect start to the game against Buducnost VOLI Podgorica on Wednesday gave his team a sizeable lead that allowed Umana Reyer Venice to play without pressure the rest of the way.
Theodore set the tone early for Reyer
In just his second game with the club, Theodore took charge from the start. He scored the game’s first basket and then assisted on Michele Vitali’s triple and Martynas Echodas’s slam. When Theodore pulled up for a deep three, Reyer was sitting pretty at 0-10. Buducnost soon got its first basket, but Theodore wasn’t finished. He drilled another three before missing his first shot of the game. When head coach Walter De Raffaele pulled Theodore for his first rest, he had 8 points and had assisted on 5 more. Reyer led 6-23, meaning that Theodore had outproduced the entire Buducnost attack.
For the game, Theodore amassed 15 points, 3 assists and 2 steals to lead his team to a 72-82 victory. He eventually cooled down and shot 3 for 5 on two-pointers and 3 for 6 on threes. Theodore also committed 3 turnovers. But the number that shows his impact on the game is his +/- score of 25. That means in the 29:56 that Theodore played, Reyer outscored Buducnost by 25 points. Or in other words, in the 10:04 that Theodore rested, Buducnost outscored Reyer by 15. The next highest +/- for Reyer was Echodas 21. No other player had more than 12.
